Under the streets! Industrial revolution.
LIMESTONE 3K visited Dudley Canals as part of our topic learning about the Industrial Revolution. The day started with a workshop about the history of the Industrial Revolution and when/how the canals were invented. Children worked in teams to make a jigsaw which showed the journey of limestone which was taken from the caverns to make iron ore and finally chains in local factories. We also enjoyed looking at how small the space inside a narrow boat was for families. We couldn't believe that sometimes there could be 2 adults and 10+ children! We even had time to decorate our own plates which represented how to decorate the living space on narrow boats at that time in History. The day finished with a 45-minute narrow boat ride through the caverns. We were all amazed at the history underneath the streets of our city.
