ing internally with the broader economic and consumer forces affecting the market. “It confirmed what our team leaders communicated and helped explain some of the underlying reasons, including economic uncertainty and changing consumer spending patterns,” she said. For D’Aloisio, that is one of the report’s clearest bene- fits: it provides “the bigger ‘why’ versus what’s happening in our business.” Understanding The Numbers Internal data can show a converter how its own sales, customers, costs, and operations are changing. kets RISI adds the industry context that helps put those results into per- spective. Last year’s report examined eco- nomic uncertainty, consumer behav- ior, policy developments, production conditions, costs, and individual end-use markets to provide a more

complete picture of folding carton demand. It also showed how broader pressures develop over time. The 2025–26 report found that cartonboard costs in- creased at an average annual rate of 4.4 percent between 2014 and 2024, compared with 3.0 percent annual price growth for folding cartons. For a converter assessing performance, that kind of intelligence helps distinguish what may be specific to its own operation from a larger industry shift. It adds context to planning, forecasts, and the assumptions behind busi- ness decisions. Looking Beyond The Top-Line Forecast Fastmarkets RISI also looks to identify where demand is moving and the forces influencing it. The 2025–26 report identified several end-use mar- kets expected to grow more than 1 percent annually and examined sustainability-driven movement toward fiber-based packaging as one factor influencing the lon- ger-term outlook. That trend was particularly relevant to D’Aloisio’s work at PaperWorks. “Sustainability is a key pillar in our communication strat- egy, and the trend directly influences our messaging, con- tent, and campaign strategy,” she said. She uses the report as a reference when developing marketing content and supporting sales initiatives. She also sees value in giving sales teams greater context around the conditions affecting customers and demand. That illustrates how the report can extend beyond exec- utive planning. Market intelligence can give teams an un- derstanding of the environment in which they make deci- sions and communicate with customers. As PPC prepares to release the 2026-2027 Fastmar- kets RISI Trends report, D’Aloisio is interested in where demand is headed and how tariffs, economic uncertainty, and consumer spending are influencing the outlook.
