HOW CAN THE JEW knowCHRIST STIMULUS

A Jewish man heard the witness from an A. M. F. Missionary in Florida. Patiently, with an open Bible the worker focused upon the need for peace in the human heart. Then pointing out some of the 333 prophecies about the Messiah, which were fulfilled in Jesus, he turned to Isaiah 53. RESPONSE The Jewish man read of the one who was “wounded for our transgressions” . . . and by whose stripes "we are healed." Amazed that this was not the New Testament, but his own Jewish prophet Isaiah, his preju dice was overcome. He found his own condition portrayed. Best of all he found the One upon whom the iniquity of all was laid. 365 days of the year by personal contact, by tracts, and by radio, A. M. F. missionar ies are reaching Jewish people with the message of salvation. Archie A. MacKinney, Director AMERICAN MESSIANIC FELLOWSHIP 7448 N. Damen Ave., Chicago 45, III. N o v e m b e r 21, 1964, is a big day on Staten Island, for today the Verrazano Narrows Bridge across the entrance to New York harbor, from Staten Island to Brooklyn, was opened to traffic. It has the longest suspension span in the world, arid it breaks many records for bigness in bridges. The vertical towers are 1% inch farther apart at the top than at the bottom—due to the curvature of the earth! The chief function of the bridge is to relieve Manhattan of the flow of traffic from New England to the south, but it is expected that it will also increase building on Staten Is

and it is said that Verrazano was killed and eaten by savages on an is land near Florida. The bridge is beautiful, and it is a marvel of engineering skill and sci entific achievement. The wonders of human accomplishment in overcom ing obstacles and solving problems in the construction of such a struc ture serve to emphasize, in contrast, the fact that human nature remains the same. Before the bridge was completed, the number of guards had to be increased because of the work of vandals. On this day of celebra tion and speech-making, the men who did the dangerous work in wind

and rain and snow, in temperatures from below zero to nearly 100 de grees, are not present. They are boy cotting the celebration in a huff, be cause they were not among those in vited. This is hardly an oversight, for they were not invited to other celebrations which marked stages of achievement during the process of the construction. A minister whose church building was in the way is said to have “ stirred the crowd to near-homicidal wrath” by proclaim ing, “What God hath wrought, let not Moses tear asunder.” This re ferred to Robert Moses, energetic builder of parks, tunnels, and bridges in New York City. land, which is a largely undeveloped part of New York City. This is be ing written in the woods on the side of a hill where trees have been growing undisturbed since the In dians lived here. Without turning my head I can look through the trees at the new bridge and also at the Em pire State Building—the tallest man made structure in the world. Giovanni d Verrazano, in whose honor the bridge is named, discov ered New York harbor in 1532, 86 years before Henry Hudson sailed his ship, the Half-Moon, into these waters. Hudson came to an untimely end when he was set adrift by his crew in a small boat in Hudson Bay,
