Canceled Summer Events Due to COVID-19

We look forward to 2021 and being able to put the event on safely.” Alaska State Fair Mining Day at the Alaska State Fair has been a key annual event for AMA and the Council of Alaska Producers to spread the good news of mining to 20,000 or more fair goers during the annual Mining Day. The State Fair announced in early May that the One sad result of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the cancellation of many of the beloved summer events for Alaska miners. Here are several more: Juneau Gold Rush Days President Jerry Harmon has announced Juneau Gold Rush Days, scheduled for June 20-21 has been cancelled for 2020. “We very much regret the inconvenience this cancellation may cause and are deeply disappointed that the event cannot be held as planned,” Harmon posted on Facebook. “Mining has always been an industry which puts safety first. Cancelling our mass
massive event would be canceled for 2020. It is a disappointment not only for fair visitors, but for the hundreds of organizations like AMA and small businesses that rely on the event to reach Alaskans. MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® postponed to 2021 The National Mining Association (NMA), the MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2020 (Show) sponsor, has decided because of the advance of COVID-19 around the world that holding the Show in September 2020 was impractical. The Show, which is typically held every four years, will be postponed until September 2021. “Our current plan is to hold MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2021 in Las Vegas,” NMA said in a news release. “We are working with our event partners to identify and secure the necessary exhibition facilities and hotel accommodations in Las Vegas for a successful MINExpo INTERNATIONAL 2021. Once the logistical arrangements have been confirmed the new dates will be announced.” Also Canceled: Tanana Valley State Fair, Fairbanks; Juneau Fourth of July Parade; Southeast Alaska State Fair, Haines.
