AMA Members Take Part in Mining Day Ceremony
G ov. Mike Dunleavy proclaimed May 10, mining in the founding and early development of Alaska’s history, and to appreciate the efforts of all Alaskans involved in the mining industry today. Many AMA members took part in the ceremony — both in person and via an online Zoom meeting. Today, there are six major active mines in the state, with 4,600 direct and 9,400 direct and indirect jobs attributed to their production and support. They are: Greens Creek near Juneau (silver); Kensington near Juneau (gold); Fort Knox near Fairbanks (gold); Northern Star Pogo near Delta Junction (gold); Usibelli near Healy (coal); and Red Dog near Kotzebue. In addition, there are hundreds of placer mines across the state, providing incomes for families, as well as support for local businesses in and around the claims. 2020, as Alaska Mining Day and encouraged all Alaskans to recognize the importance of
