Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter Father's Day 2019

T he Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chap- ter (BMAC) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in honor of Father's Day 2019, featured the 15 fatherhood legacies within the Chapter. On Saturday, May 4 th , Thursday, June 6 th and Friday, June 7 th , Chap- ter hosted Legacy Photo Shoot Outings at the Gaylord Hotel & Resort, located at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland as well as at the Woodmore Country Club located in Mitch- ellville, Maryland. With the photographer, Brother Charles Frink, the Chapter was able to capture the essence of true manliness while recognizing the joy of fatherhood, the strength of the fraternal bond and achievement in every field of human endeavor. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 19.7 million children, more than one in , live without a father in the home. Conse- quently, there is a father factor in nearly all social ills facing Ameri- ca today. Studies have also found that 71% of high school dropouts are fatherless; fatherless children have more trouble academically, scoring poorly on tests of reading, mathematics, and thinking skills; children from father-absent homes are more likely to be tru- ant from school, more likely to be excluded from school, more likely to leave school at age 16, and less likely to attain academic and professional qualifications in adulthood. Poverty levels, incarceration, teen pregnancy, low self-esteem, anger, violence, and foster care populations are all greatly impacted by fatherlessness. According to 72.2% of the U.S. population, fatherlessness is the most significant family or social problem facing America. (Source:

The brothers who participated in the BMAC Legacy Photo Shoot also provided video recorded state- ments as to how their fathers inspired them to become Kappa men as well as the moment they witnessed their sons crossing the burning sands. The brothers con- cluded the outing with a circled prayer for their sons. BMAC plans to expand upon this event to be inclusive of sur- rounding Chapters to where the Bond of Fatherhood is celebrated annually in the month of June as signified by a gathering of legacies, siblings and veterans. A dinner and a host of fraternal ex- perience activities will highlight the annual occasion over Father's Day Weekend.
