Dental Care for All
How Our Office Is Paying It Forward
We are feeling lucky this spring, and we have a feeling May is going to be an incredible month. Not only do we live in an amazing community and have the honor of serving fantastic patients like you, we’re partnering with a national nonprofit to pay forward some of the goodwill we receive. Taylor Dental believes everyone deserves access to dental care and the priceless gift of a smile. That’s why we’re hosting our first Dentistry From the Heart event this May. Dentistry From the Heart is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with dental offices across the U.S. to make dental care accessible to everyone, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with them. We’re offering a day of free dentistry for the adults in our community who don’t have access to dental care. On Friday, May 18, we’re closing the office to regular appointments so we can open it up to community members in need of dental care. From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., our staff, other local dentists and hygienists, family members, volunteers, community members, and local businesses are devoting their time to make this happen. We need your help to spread the word about this event. If you know someone 18 or older who would benefit from this program, or if you’re part of a community organization that assists underserved populations, please let them know about Dentistry From the Heart. Patients who come in on May 18 will be able to choose between a filling, cleaning, or extraction, and the service will be performed for free . The first 100 patients are guaranteed to receive care, but our goal is to see as many
patients as possible. We encourage everyone to come early because we’ll serve on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure anyone attending brings comfortable and warm clothing, water, blankets, and chairs, because they may have to wait in line outside before being seen. Besides spreading the word, you can also help us by volunteering during Dentistry From the Heart. Email Kari for more information at officemgr@AndrewTaylorDental.com. Thanks to some awesome businesses that are gracious enough to support our event with refreshments and resources, we’ll be able to keep our team and volunteers going strong all day. There’s one final way you can help us give back to our community. On the same day as Dentistry From the Heart, we’re hosting a blood drive outside of our office. You don’t need to sign up ahead of time; it will also be first come, first served. Come by to donate blood and give the gift of life. When you donate, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a whopping $1,000 worth of services by Taylor Dental.
Didn’t we say May is going to be incredible?
We hope this will be the first of many Dentistry From the Heart events. Thank you to the organization and to all of our supporters.
May you have an amazing month!

TRY GAMES, AUDIOBOOKS, AND PODCASTS TO PASS THE TIME Road Trips Don’t Have to Be Painful
Summer is right around the corner, which means you’ll soon pile the whole family into the car, ready to brave the road for a vacation. Everyone knows that riding in the car for hours can be torture. But with a little creativity, you can turn the worst part of a long trip into a fun event. Pack a Travel Game When the excitement of the family vacation starts to wear off, keep the peace and entertain your kids with a travel game. Many board game manufacturers offer travel-sized versions that are easy to pack and play in the car. Before your next road trip, consider purchasing digital Yahtzee, which packs all the fun of the classic game without the dice, or IQ Fit, a logic game with over 100 challenges. Both games cost around $10 and can provide hours of entertainment. Include the Whole Family Once the travel games no longer pique anyone’s interest, try an activity that can be fun for the whole family: a traditional road trip game. If you have a car full of storytellers, try “Fortunately, Unfortunately.” The rules are simple. The first person starts by saying, “fortunately,” and mentioning something good about the road
trip or the destination. The next person (moving clockwise) then follows by saying something “unfortunate” about the previous person’s statement. Take turns with every passenger in the car. If someone stumbles, they get a strike; three strikes and you’re out. The last passenger standing wins. Play an Audiobook or Podcast We get it. Sometimes passengers don’t want to play games. Occasionally, they’d rather relax or take a nap. However, your listening material doesn’t have to be limited to Dad’s favorite music. Instead, consider listening to a family-friendly audiobook or podcast, which can make the longest and most boring parts of your trip an entertaining or educational experience. Almost any popular book is available in audio form, but it can be hard to find an enjoyable podcast. “Transistor” is a science-focused podcast that explores subjects kids and adults will find fascinating. Or if you’re looking for something fictional, try “Storynory,” in which the narrator tells fairy tales and legends from all over the globe.
You’re in Control With Custom Trays
When it comes to whitening, there are options to fit your schedule and your budget.
Custom bleaching trays let you to whiten from the comfort of your home and customize how white you’d like your teeth to be. Our dentists often recommend this option because they’re a simple and efficient way to whiten your teeth while minimizing complications. Our professional whitening gel is safer and more effective than over-the- counter kits. For this option, we take impressions of your teeth to make fitted, custom trays. You can take the trays home and wear them for an hour a day using our professional whitening gel. Once your teeth become the shade of white you like, you can simply stop whitening. Your results are easily customizable depending on your preference. In addition to at-home whitening, our dentists offer in-office bleaching. This method can give you results in as little as 45 minutes, so it’s ideal for your upcoming wedding or other special events. We also offer an appointment-free way to whiten at home with to-go trays. Simply pick up a set of 10 trays and whitening gel from our office to use at home. This is the most cost-effective way to whiten.
Don’t forget: We opened up the Smile White for Life program! For a special price, your whitening needs can be met — for life. By simply keeping your regular appointments, we’ll provide you with all the tools you need for at-home whitening. Give our office a call today to find out more!
Talk to your hygienist or dentist to find out which option is right for you!

Dealing With Dental Anxiety Don’t Let Stress Scare You Away From the Dentist No one likes going to the dentist — after all, the thought of someone else snooping around in your mouth isn’t pleasant. It’s pretty common to feel stressed at the dentist’s office, but for some people, that stress can escalate to a phobia. Dental anxiety can cause a host of dental problems. Many people who struggle with this anxiety will only visit the dentist when they absolutely have to. But, by putting off coming in, cavities or other dental issues can become worse and can even cause pain. Additionally, rushing to the dentist due to an emergency can make the patient’s anxiety worse. If someone is already nervous about going to the dentist, making an appointment for something more complicated than an exam or a cleaning isn’t the solution. Their opinion of dentists is only going to worsen in situations like this, creating an unpleasant case for the patient and dentist. Managing your dental anxiety isn’t easy, but it can be done. We can offer you nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or can prescribe a mild sedative to help you relax. All of our rooms have heated massage chairs and TVs with headphones, which can help to distract you. An easy way to minimize anxiety right off the bat is to show up right before your appointment time — try not to arrive too early. Although this strategy might seem too simple to work, it minimizes the time you spend in the waiting room. The longer a patient sits, the more time they have to mull over any previous bad experiences, imagine things that could go wrong, or anticipate the possible discomfort. Above all else, please communicate your anxiety to your dentist. Getting to know us and our process can lower stress levels and uncertainty. We may have suggestions on how to make you comfortable once we know how nervous you are. Talking through the procedure beforehand and afterward will help you understand what to expect and what’s already happened. We have many patients at Taylor Dental who we have been able to successfully work through dental anxiety, and who are now comfortably able to come in for treatment. Dental anxiety can make the dentist’s office seem like the worst place in the world. But with a little confidence and a tactful approach, nobody should have to suffer from poor dental hygiene because of it.
A huge Taylor Dental thank-you to our event sponsors!

MORE THAN A GARDEN DIGGING FOR COMMUNITY
May 13 is also Mother’s Day! Check out some of the local Mother’s Day activities going on that weekend.
Beneath the overpass in downtown Pensacola, an abandoned plot of land has been transformed. What used to be an ignored part of town has flourished into a community garden full of plants, veggies, and community! From the Ground Up Community Garden thrives off the care gardeners and volunteers provide to grow organic foods and produce. Anyone is welcome to volunteer at From the Ground Up, and they operate on a “reap what you sow” system. If you work in the garden for a few hours, you’re welcome to take a few of the fruits and veggies home with you. If you’re looking to add more fresh local produce to your diet, From the Ground Up offers a “Buy a Box” program. For a small annual fee, you’ll get a box of produce harvested from the garden every month plus tickets to all of the garden events. Events happen year-round, from concerts to gardening classes. During the spring and fall, From the Ground Up hosts Music Under the Stars, a celebration of local musicianship. On May 11, Will Kimbrough will play his country- inspired tunes. Bluegrass duo Sugarcane Jane will perform on June 1. Tickets range from $10–$15.
Girls’ Day Away Margaritaville Beach Hotel’s free Girls’ Day Away offers pampering with local boutiques and spas. Food and drink specials!
