Building Smarter for a Stronger Tomorrow
Written by: Skyler Grey | Editor in Chief Built America Magazine
In the humid heart of the Sunshine State, where the climate tests buildings as much as time does, a quiet revolution in resilience is underway. It’s not just about sustainability — it’s about building smarter, living healthier, and future-proofing communities from Miami to the Panhandle. At the center of it all is the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), a nonprofit driven not by profit margins, but by mission. “We were founded in 2000 by people actually out in the field — builders, academics, folks who truly understood Florida,” says CJ Davila, Executive Director of FGBC. “They knew we needed something different — a green building standard made for Florida’s unique climate and challenges. So, they built it themselves.”
