The same care extends to clients and suppliers.

Her greatest non-negotiable is communication. “It’s the one thing that you can do to change the entire experience with a client.” Projects are messy, deadlines tighten, materials are delayed and emotions ultimately rise. Matthews believes the answer is to stop, communicate and remember that everyone ultimately wants the same thing.

As a woman entering construction and business ownership at roughly 30 years old,

Matthews initially carried another weight: the feeling that she was supposed to represent something larger than herself.

She eventually realized that pressure could become another kind of limitation.
