“It’s the butterfly effect.”
For the students and young professionals reading Women Building the Future, Brown leaves little room for someone else to determine the limits of their careers. “Don’t let anybody else tell you what you can and cannot do or what you do or don’t have the ability to learn,” she says. “That’s something that you have to take responsibility for yourself.”
And there is one distinction she wants the next generation to understand.

“Women have built the past,” Brown says. “We just haven’t necessarily been the narrators of the successes. So now we need to make sure that as the future in our communities, that we reflect the reality of who we are, what we contribute, and inspire those that are coming behind us.” For generations, women’s hands have been on the work, their intellect inside the decisions and their resilience behind the progress, whether history remembered to record their names or not.
Brown intends for this generation to be harder to overlook.
