some one who climbed a tree, and it wasn’t a little boy either. It was a grown man! I wonder why a grown man wanted to climb a tree. What do you think he was looking for? Let me tell you. He was looking for the most important per son in all the world: he was looking for Jesus. This man’s name was Zac cheus. He knew that Jesus was passing by, and he wasn’t very tall, so he de cided to climb a tree so he would be sure to get a good view of Jesus. It was a good idea. He not only saw Jesus, but Jesus saw him, and told him to come down. They went together to the home of Zaccheus, and the Lord Jesus said to him, “This day is salva tion come to this house.” Wasn’t that wonderful! Zaccheus was only expecting to get a little glimpse of Jesus, but Jesus came right into his house and his heart. I don’t know whether any one else ever found the Lord Jesus by climbing a tree, or not, but I do know that, if one wants to find Him today, it is good to get alone in a place above the crowd. We can see Jesus better, and He can see us better. It is hard for Him to get our attention when we are mingling with the crowd. But after He finds us, He will say to us just what He said to Zaccheus, "Come down.” We will have to get off our “high perch” and hum ble ourselves at Jesus’ feet if we want to be saved. • Object Lesson T he S on O ur S aviour OBJECTS: The dictionary, outing flannel, triangle, and circle that were used in last week’s lesson, a red circle on which the word “SON” is printed in large letters and the word “Pardon” is printed in small letters, and a bill mark ed "PAID.” (Mount the red circle on flannel.) LESSON: We have with us today the same dictionary that taught us about God last week.

som for all.” Why does our Lord re duce the “ all’’’ to “many” ? The answer involves one of the most crucial points in the whole realm of Christian doctrine, and is indirectly an infallible proof of the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures. The entire difference lies in the two Greek prepositions, both translated by our English word “for.” Paul used the preposition “huper,” which means gen erally “ on behalf of.” But Christ .used the preposition “anti,” which means “in the stead of.” Behold, now, the verbal exactness of Holy Scripture. Paul in 1 Timothy 2:6 declares that Christ gave His life a ransom “on behalf of all,” while our Lord in Matthew 20:28 pre dicts that He will give His life “in the stead of many.” Here we have the Bib lical solution to the age-long controversy among the theologians as to whether the atonement is universal or limited. In one sense it is absolutely universal: Christ died on behalf of all. But in an other sense it is limited: His death avails only in the stead of the “many” who believe. To deny or neglect either of these aspects of Calvary is to miss the truth most seriously. Golden Text Illustration J ohn 3 :16 It is related of a captive in an Aus trian prison, that with no tool but a nail he wrought night and day for twelve weary months to undermine its solid walls. Agitated by alternate hope and fear, he at length accomplished his task; and then, on a dark, blustering night, by means of a rope that he had twisted, he swung himself over the wall and was free. What will a man not do and dare for life and liberty? But for life eternal—for the blessed liberty of sons of God—there are no such dan gers to encounter, no such hardships to be borne, no months of weary waiting. That eternal life which God is waiting to bestow is without money and with out price (Isa. 55:1). It is a free gift (Rom. 6:23); and it is for any one who believeth on the Son (John 3:16)—1,000 Tales Worth Telling, by Pickering. Ruth, what did the white cover on the dictionary suggest? “God’s purity and holiness.” You are correct. Lois, /io you remem ber what the golden triangle repre sented ? “The Trinity, composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Yes, and the triangle reminds us of their oneness. Paul, can you tell us what the blue circle taught us? “It told us about God the Father who provides us with food, clothing, and shelter.” We will let Mary Helen put the tri angle and the circle on the back of the book. Today, we are to learn about the sec ond Person of the Trinity—the Son of God. We will put this circle marked “ SON” to the right of the triangle. Looking carefully at this circle, we find that the word “Pardon” is written on it. “ Pardon” is found on page 505 of this dictionary. It means to forgive; and those who accept the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, as their Saviour are forgiven. I hold in my hand a bill marked “PAID.” The Lord Jesus can pardon sinners, because He has paid, by His death on the cross, thè debt for their sins. We are reminded of John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever be lieveth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Except a man be born of water iand of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the klntcdoni of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh: and that which Is born of the Spirit is Spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ve must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it ltsteth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and Whither It goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
