this tree makes us think of Christ, for it says, “ OUR SAVIOUR IS BORN.” In thinking of Christmas, let us never for get that the greatest thing to think about as we make our plans is the birth day of Christ, our Saviour. a n d G l a d n e s s Objects: A silver star, a red card board cross, a purse, a watch, a ring, and a page from a newspaper showing the lost and found advertisements. (The red cross should be small enough to be concealed back of the silver star. With a piece of transparent tape hinge the top of the cross to the bottom of the star, where it can be dropped into position be neath the star at the desired time. Print the word “ GUIDANCE” on the star). Lesson: Uid you ever read the lost and found advertisements in the news paper? They are quite interesting. In looking at this paper I found that a woman has lost a purse. She wants to get it back and offers a reward. Dec. 28, 1952 G u i d a n c e A man has lost a watch. He, too, wants it returned and is offering a lib eral reward. A girl has lost a ring—a gift from her parents—she is willing to pay for its return. What do you think is the most valuable thing a person can lose? “Home.” Most people would agree with you, but I have something this morning which is of more value than a home. Here it is— the star of God’s guidance. You will re member how the wise men from the East lost the star which was guiding them to Christ, when they came near Jerusalem. They realized that this was the greatest loss they had ever experienced, and they were very sad. They let it be known that they had lost the star of guidance. Herod and all Jerusalem were troubled because of the wise men. The chief priests and scribes read in the Scriptures that the King was to be born in the city of Bethlehem. When the wise men learned this and left Jerusalem going toward Bethlehem, they found the star which led them to Christ. We will drop this red cross from be hind the star to show you whom the wise men found by following the star of God’s guidance. They were led to the Lord Jesus Christ. Some, today, have lost the guidance of God, and are doing little or nothing about it. They should find the Scriptures as did the wise men of old, the place where Christ may be found, and journey on until they receive Him as Saviour.
We can now see the words, “ FEAR LOWERS.” This message reminds me of the time when the disciples were fearful because of the storm. Jesus came to them walk ing on the water. When they saw Him, they cried out for fear. “ But straight way Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matt. 14:27). Faith in Christ takes away fear. I believe Christ would have us learn anew today that fear lowers life, while faith lifts. a L i f t Object: A paper tree. (Use a piece of paper 8% x ll inches, or larger if nec essary. Fold in the middle to the size of 8%x5% inches. Fold each end to within % inch of the middle, making the size 8%x3 inches. With the center fold and the two concealed free edges to the left, begin cutting V* inch from the center fold, up 1 inch, making the trunk of the tree. From here cut to the right edge. One inch from the lower right cor ner cut to the upper left corner. When opened, you will have a half tree on each side, hinged together at the bottom. At a point 3% inches from the bottoms of the halves, cut out a rectangle, % of an inch wide and % inch deep from each half, to leave an opening the shape of a cross. In the crossbar of the cross, print “ CHRIST.” Near the top of the upright begin the word “ OUR,” printing down Dec. 21, 1952 A G i f t w i t h toward the crossbar. Below the crossbar, on the upright print vertically the words “ IS BORN.” Open the halves, and using the word “ OUR,” complete the words “ TOYS, TRUCK, TRAIN.” Add “MAS” to “ CHRIST,” making “ CHRISTMAS.” Using the words “ IS BORN,” complete the words, “ SHIPS, CARS, BALLS, DOLLS, POPCORN, CANDY.” Fold the halves behind the tree. Do not make the words, “ OUR SAVIOUR IS BORN” any more distinct than the other letters). Lesson: It is not hard to guess that this is a Christmas tree. We see written on it the names of things boys and girls often want at Christmas time. There is a danger at this season of the year that we may forget that Christmas does not mean the giving and receiving of gifts. It is the celebration in honor of the birth of Christ, God’s Christmas Gift to the world. In order that we may better under stand, I will change this tree into a tree that will remind us of Christ. (Fold the halves over the front of the tree.) See,
