Founded in 1943 by Emil Usibel- li, Usibelli Coal Mine is located near the town of Healy and is 115 miles south of Fairbanks and 250 miles north of Anchorage adja- cent to the Parks Highway and Alaska Railroad. UCM currently has a workforce of 100 employees and operates year-round. Mine produc- tion has grown from 10,000 tons in 1943 to approximately 1-million tons of coal per year.

Randy Killian, UCM’s most senior employee, celebrated his 45th anniversary with Usibelli Coal Mine on April 18. With that anniversary he also celebrates 45 years without a Lost Time Accident at the coal mine—a remarkable achievement!
