Beyond Stranger Things
(Gothic Literature from Frankenstein to Stranger Things )
Monsters, Malevolence and Mayhem
Combining Horror, Mystery, and Romance; Gothic Literature has provided some of the most well-known characters, themes, and tropes in fiction: such as Dracula , and Frankenstein’s Monster, through to the modern gothic hit show Stranger Things.
Stories, poetry, films, and novels, (from authors including: H.G. Wells, Edgar Allen Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley) will introduce students to the tropes, ideas, and emotions that are inherent in Gothic Fiction.
Students will create their own short story and/or short film in the gothic genre.
Group Project: To create a published anthology of short stories for an authentic audience.
This elective aligns with VCE Literature and is recommended for students who are interested in fields such as writing, creative arts, film and television production.
Subject cost: approx. $25 (for excursions)
