“Residents First” improves quality of life

The Champlain LHIN, which provides about $310million in operational funding to60long-termcarehomeseveryyear,isan activepartnerin ResidentsFirst .Ofthe60 homesintheChamplainregion,51arenow participating.Itisexpectedallhomesinthe regionwill be on board byMarch, 2012. In the Residents First program, administratorsanddesignatedfacilitators inlong-termcarehomesreceivetrainingto supporttheircolleaguesindevelopingand putting in place quality-improvement plans.Participantsarelinkedto Residents First leaders in other homes through educational events and webinars so they canshareexperiencesandprovideadvice. For example, in October, leaders from across the Champlain region gathered to workondifferenttoolsusedtobuildplans, implement “best practices,” andmeasure performance. They also spoke about how best to engage frontline staff in the new initiative.Thisisjustoneofmanyprograms improvinghealthservicesforseniorsinthe Champlainregion.
