Emperor is a leading stakeholder communications consultancy specialising in areas such as corporate reporting and branding, and employing around 200 people across its offices in London, Bicester, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dubai. Emperor supports its employees with a comprehensive range of benefits that includes traditional financial benefits such as life assurance and a pension scheme. Employees’ health is looked after through a private medical insurance, the cycle to work scheme, eye care, an Employee Assistance Programme and Fuell, a fitness app that enables company–wide challenges that appeal to the four generations of employees at the company. Generous holidays are supplemented by an additional day off on birthdays, and a flexible working policy acknowledges the changing needs of employees and the agile approach needed to work across different project teams, offices and clients. In order to gauge its employee wellbeing Emperor runs weekly employee happiness surveys to answer questions and address any issues. An annual in–depth survey is also conducted to measure employee wellbeing year–on–year. Yet, founder Steve Kemp’s commitment to employee welfare goes beyond the traditional approach to benefits. In 2017 Kemp introduced ‘Our Pledges’, a series of promises reflecting the company’s beliefs, behaviours and culture.

These pledges encompass the mind, body and soul. For the mind, the commitments strive to create the right environment for professional and personal development. For the body, Emperor’s pledges actively promote health and wellbeing.

And for the soul, the company has pledges that focus on giving back and creating a legacy for the future. A team of ambassadors looks after each of the individual pledges and drives activity to make sure they are embedded in the day–to–day life of the agency. This gives employees a sense of purpose and ownership and creates a unique culture. An annual pledge booklet shares the results and impacts of each of the activities.
