FUN IN PHILLY IN JANUARY WHY IT’S THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THIS HISTORICAL CITY
We may celebrate our country’s founding in July, but January is quite a historical month for American history, too. On Jan. 10, 1776, Thomas Paine published, “Common Sense,” which was a pamphlet that encouraged the colonists to rebel against British rule. It’s believed Paine’s pamphlet helped sway uncertain colonists into agreeing to a revolution. Another founding
We went to quite a few different historical places, and that was easy to do because many of the museums and landmarks were within walking distance. As a bonus, since it was January, there weren’t many tourists vying for a chance to see these historical places. While some websites warned of long lines, we strolled into each spot without waiting.
surrounded by people who played a decisive role in that huge moment in history.
Another fascinating element was that I gained a greater understanding of the people who founded America. They were wealthy men who didn’t have to spend all day on the farm or working, and you can see that kind of grandeur through the intricate details in some of these famous locations. It’s something to marvel at. That visit also made me really appreciate all the landmarks and museums we have back at home, too. We are incredibly lucky to be home to Greenfield Village, a large museum founded by Henry Ford. I know I take this landmark for granted, but it’s home to great pieces in American history. If you have yet to visit or have family coming into town, it’s a must-see spot. And that’s why I recommend visiting Philadelphia in January! It’s not only easy to get into these historical landmarks, but also, regardless of when you visit, it’s an amazing sight to see. There’s something for everyone, and I guarantee there will be a moment where you say, “Wow.”

Some of the highlights included a visit to Independence National Historical Park and the National Constitution Center. At the park, we
I was reminded of this because one of the last trips I took prior to the pandemic happened in January, and ironically, it had a major element of our nation’s history embedded in it, too.
saw famous sites like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. The center detailed the history of the Constitution and struggle to get to that point, too. For someone who isn’t as fascinated with history as others, I was truly amazed by our visit to Philadelphia. I can remember one poignant moment when I stood in the National Constitution Center with the 30 life-sized statues of those who signed the Constitution. It was so powerful to be
In January 2020, we flew into Philadelphia to attend a funeral in upstate Pennsylvania. We had never been to Philadelphia before, so we figured this was a good opportunity to explore the city prior to attending the funeral. I didn’t know much about Philadelphia before the trip — nor would I consider myself much of a history buff — but I was completely blown away by the history we found in Philadelphia.

It’s Radon Awareness Month!
Everything You Need to Know About Radon
We always appreciate Google reviews. Each one provides valuable insight for prospective customers, and we feel proud when we read about your experiences. Recently, we received a review that blew us away. We didn’t take the request this
January is Radon Awareness Month, and it serves as a reminder that this invisible, odorless, and tasteless compound could be extremely dangerous if it leaks into your home. Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer deaths, and it claims the lives of 21,000 Americans each year. People can be exposed to radon via the air that comes through cracks and gaps in buildings, so testing radon levels in homes, schools, and other buildings can help prevent health risks and unnecessary exposure. HOW DO YOU PREVENT RADON LEAKS? Testing your home is a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to prevent leaks. Radon kits can be found online or in home improvement stores. They are easy to install and just require placing a small measuring device and leaving it for the directed period of time. Be sure to follow the instructions on where to place the device and where to send it after the test to find out your radon level. You can also hire qualified professionals to test for radon in your home by contacting your state radon program or by using the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) or the National Radon Safety Board (NRSB).

But don’t take our word for it; check out this review from C.O.!
“My wedding was disrupted by COVID-19, so my husband and I married in a small ceremony in 2020 and postponed our family reception until September 2021. After our 2020 ceremony, I took my wedding dress to another local [dry] cleaner to have them remove the dirt from the train. It wasn't until August 2021 that I removed my dress from the dry cleaner bag to find that the other cleaner failed to remove the stains — with just a few weeks left until our reception! “I took my dress to Janet Davis Cleaners, and they rushed to work a small miracle with my wedding gown. It looked even better than it had when it was brand-new! They even steamed the seams of my dress so they laid better. They sent me out the door with a small wedding day emergency kit as a gift. I will be a loyal customer to Janet Davis from here on out!”
Additional actions to reduce high radon levels in your home include not smoking indoors, increasing airflow
by opening windows and using fans, and sealing cracks in your floors and walls.

widely available medical tests to measure whether you have been exposed. Possible symptoms can include shortness of breath, hoarseness, wheezing, persistent cough, coughing up blood, chest pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, and fatigue. WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED? If you think you or a loved one has been exposed to radon, see your medical care provider about whether you should receive regular checkups or CT scans to test for possible signs of lung cancer.

STAY ORGANIZED IN 2022 3 Closet and Dresser Hacks to Save Your Space and Sanity
If you dread opening your closet door or just shut out the mess that lurks in your dresser as you close the drawers, it may be time to re-think how you store your clothes. After all, a clean, organized closet and dresser are beneficial for both your sanity and the integrity of your clothing. Consider these organization hacks to stay organized and protect your clothes for a long time! TOSS OR DONATE. Closets and dressers can be like the kitchen junk drawer, as “stuff” accumulates faster than you can sort it. Before you tackle organization once and for all, take serious inventory of your items. What can you donate, what needs to get tossed, what can be stored elsewhere, and what can you sell? Be honest, then move on! USE DIVIDERS, HOOKS, AND BINS. Think of your closet and dressers like a game of Tetris. Everything has its place,
but haphazard storage processes can spell disaster. By adding a few bins and dividers, you can avoid this! For example, store all your sandals in one bin, line up your boots on shelves with dividers, and masterfully store jewelry and other accessories with drawer dividers and hooks that can line shelves. When everything has its place, it’s easy to eliminate clutter. UTILIZE EVERY CORNER OF YOUR SPACE. Hooks can be a powerful tool for
BONUS: Don’t toss those pop tabs! Slide one end over the head of a hanger, then hang another hanger off the second hole on the tab, and you have a two-for-one storage solution for hanging clothes! For more information about dry-cleaning aftercare, ask our team upon pickup or give us a call.
closet organization, but to really get the most use, try using all the space in your closet. For instance, you can hang more than clothes in your closet. A few hooks along the walls will allow you to hang bags, belts, and necklaces, creating more space in the aforementioned bins for other items. Use the sides of shelves and the backs of the doors for more storage options!

Root Vegetable Buddha Bowls 4 Why Do Your Ears Pop on Flights?
AIRPLANE EARS The Science Behind Your Ears Popping on Flights
When it comes to flying on an airplane, you can avoid cramped legs by upgrading to first class or catch a view by picking the window seat. However, there’s no getting around your ears popping during takeoff and landing. Believe it or not, there is a scientific explanation behind this common annoyance. As you read this, you’re likely not on an airplane, and the air pressure on either side of your eardrums is equal. Air is currently passing right on through your eustachian tube, a narrow passage that leads from your middle ear cavity to your pharynx and allows for pressure to be equalized on each side of your eardrums. When you’re in flight on an airplane, air pressure is not equal. During both ascent and descent, your eardrums stretch to try to adapt to the changes. In order to
equalize the pressure, your eustachian tube needs to open and close. When it does, your ears pop! Usually, the ear popping is irritating but nothing more. However, in rare cases, the pressure can lead to ear pain and even loss in hearing, especially if your ears don’t pop. In this case, you may need to make an effort to get your eustachian tube to open by yawning, talking, or swallowing. Sucking on a piece of candy, swallowing some water, or chewing gum may also help! One of the best things you can do is make sure you are not sleeping as the airplane takes off or lands because your eustachian tube isn’t able to open and close normally. If you commonly struggle with congestion or sore ears on flights,
taking a nasal decongestant before you board may ensure that your eustachian tube is not blocked. If your hearing and ears do not return to normal shortly after the flight, be sure to schedule an appointment to see your health care professional as soon as possible.
