S. Mackay. 4:31 MEMORY VERSE: “The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear” (Heb. 13:6). APPROACH: Have you ever heard a boy or girl say, “But, Mother—!” when Mother had something to be done? He had told him exactly what to say to the people and what to do. You would think that God’s servant would have been glad to obey quickly. But this is what we read: “And M o s e s answered and said, But—” (4:1).'He .was afraid to do what God had asked. Then the Lord patient ly showed him how he could know that God was with him to help and guide him. Even then Moses made ex cuses; he said he could not speak well as a leader should do. God was sorry that Moses did not trust Him, and aft erwards Moses saW that God’s first plan would have been best. Finally God said to Moses that Aaron, who was a good speaker, was to go with him. These are God’s words to,Moses: “And thou shalt speak unto him, and put Words in his mouth: and I will be w ith .thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do” (4:15). Wasn’t God good- to both Moses and Aaron? These two brothers worked together after that, and “the people believed” (v. 31). broken, and I am sure that any one of you could have done it. Did you know that Moses, the great lawgiver and leader of Israel, was like a match? There was a time in his life when he did not live close to God, and he got himself into trouble. When the Lord told him to go down into Egypt to deliver His people, Israel, He said, “Certainly I will be with thee” (Ex. 3:12). We shall let this bright nail remind us of the Lord, and this match will represent Moses. I shall put them close together. N tw , we find that it is impossible to buak the match. You cannot break tl.u match unless you break the nail, and you cannot do that. This explains why MoseS was a strong leader. God was with him, and he stayed close to God. Look, If we remove this match from . Deuteronomy 21:18 If a man have a stub- born and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborh and re bellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. the nail even an inch, it wi l l ' be' an easy thing to break it. Its safety is in staying close to the nail. We need to be strong like Mosfes, but we can be strong only as We stay close to Christ. The Apostle Paul realized this, and he wrote: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me” (Phil. 4:13). Stay close to Christ and you will be strong. Away from Christ, even a short distance, you will be broken. 21 For the drunkard and tbe glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. I Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the. unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunk ards, nor reviler8, nor. extortioners, shall in herit the kingdom of God.
