THE WITTER GILLETTE FAMILY ENDOWED FUND in support of the Community Scholars Program In 2018, Cathedral School for Boys established the Community Scholars Program, a comprehensive merit scholarship for high-achieving, low-income boys of color entering the fifth or sixth grade. The Community Scholarship Fund established by the Board will provide up to full tuition in addition to funding for school-associated expenses such as transportation, uniforms, supplies, technology access and athletic equipment. The School received an extraordinary leadership gift from the Witter and Gillette families, establishing the Witter Gillette Family Endowed Fund in support of the Community Scholars Program. This gift continues the family’s legacy of instrumental support of Cathedral School for Boys that began at its inception. We are grateful for their continued commitment to the School and dedication to the success of this important program.
Evan Remedios, Class of 1991, passed away in 2016 at the young age of 39. After graduating from Cathedral, Evan attended University High School and earned his B.A. at UC Santa Barbara. He then served fifteen years as a Police Officer with the City and County of San Francisco. Evan’s parents, Edward and Bobbie, reached out to Cathedral School to explore ways to honor his memory, and this discussion led to the establishment of the Evan Remedios Scholarship Fund. The funds generated by this endowment will be used to provide financial support to students in need throughout their time at the school. The Evan Remedios Scholarship Fund is being established at a time when the School is increasing its efforts to support a diverse student body that is reflective of the demographics of San Francisco and make the Cathedral School experience accessible to a wide array of students. We’d like to thank Edward and Bobbie Remedios for their commitment to the School in honor of Evan, and to these donors who contributed to this new fund over the past year.
