FRANCES K. FIELD AWARD FOR ACHIEVEMENT IN PUBLIC SPEAKING In 2008, CSB received a gift from the Frances K. Field Foundation to begin the Frances K. Field Award for Achievement in Public Speaking. Thanks to their ongoing support, all Upper School boys currently participate in the program. Four boys are chosen from fifth and sixth grades to represent their class section and those boys then perform their speeches at an Upper School assembly. In seventh grade, all students engage in a debate centered around a current event. The top three performers in each section are selected by students to compete as a debate team in the final round. All eighth-grade boys write and present their own persuasive speech, with the top two speakers in each section participating in the final round. With guidance from the Director of Upper School, the winning teams and individuals at each grade level have the honor of determining a special program, event or improvement to benefit their class or the school which is funded by the Field Foundation. We’d like to thank the Frances K. and Charles D. Field Foundation for their ongoing support of this program, which allows us to advance the skill of public speaking at Cathedral School for Boys.
