The AfriLabs Annual Gathering - The Virtual Edition
In previous years, we hosted and participated in several physical events with the most significant being the AfriLabs Annual Gathering. In 2020, due to the lockdowns and advice from health bodies, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to stay home and stay safe, we hosted our events online. It was a learning experience when we hosted the 2020 AfriLabs Annual Gathering. We tried to bring the same signature experience associated with the previous physical versions to the virtual edition. The AfriLabs Annual Gathering provides a unique opportunity for tech hubs, innovators, academia, stakeholders, and other relevant players in the African tech and Innovation ecosystem to convene, network, and share knowledge on different areas/ sectors about the tech and innovation ecosystem in Africa. The 5th edition of the AfriLabs Annual Gathering was themed “Building a Resilient Innovative Africa” held from the 12th-14th October 2020. This was inspired by the current realities facing stakeholders of the innovative economy in Africa. Panel sessions and debates, ecosystem report launch, an award ceremony, happy hours, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions and features that allow participants to have one-on-ones with themselves and with speakers, this year’s virtual gathering was an exciting and impactful experience.
