WELCOME TO WERNING CATTLE COMPANY’S 45TH ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE
We will also be sharing an amazing group of bred heifers with you folks. They are maternal factories with volume, power and presence ready to generate for their new owners. We are offering quality and quantity of reputation females bred to the world’s best sires. These elite ladies are worth the drive to Emery. Many are worthy of going into the donor pen. Changes are coming in our beef yield grade system, and I believe we are ready with cattle that will benefit from the change. Experts believe beef carcass will be graded with 3-D imaging like CT scanning to more accurately reflect the true amount of muscle in a carcass. This would give more precise account of the true volume of meat in the chuck and round portions. We have always produced cattle with wide tops, big butts and a lot of guts. NEW this year! We will be selling the frozen genetics the night before the live cattle will sell on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM. We are excited about this change and will also host a customer appreciation beef brisket supper that evening at 5:00 PM before the frozen genetic sale and is another way for us to say “Thank You” to all of you. After the meal we will be turning loose of over 100 embryos from our best donor cows and over 200 units of rare semen. Some of you know that I have two brothers, Wayne and Mark. We are so sorry that both of their wives passed away this past year. We will forever remember Pam and Kathy. We keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers. We would like to thank our family, friends, and neighbors who help us in so many ways during the year and at sale time. We thank you for the trust you have in our ability to supply performance and maternal genetics for your herds. It is our privilege to serve the greatest beef producers in the world. We thank each and every one of you for your business, friendship, and trust. It takes special people to love this business – people that work with their hands and talk from their hearts. We welcome your visit to the ranch at any time. We take great pride in the W/C brand – truly the brand for results! We thank you for your interest in W/C genetics and invite any and all questions. We have a lot of great things happening here! Thanks for being a part of it!
Hello to all of you! What an unbelievable cattle market we are enjoying. I have been thinking about what my Dad would say if he was here now. I’m thinking one big market steer today would bring more than a whole load of market steers on our 1964 Ford truck. Hard to believe we made any money feeding cattle back in the 60’s and 70’s. We need to take advantage of this market with more live calves and more pay weight. We are offering proven Simmental, SimAngus and Angus genetics within this sale that will create more dollars for you short term and in the long term with maternally focused replacements. We work diligently to ensure that we have the industry-leading genetics available every year for our customers to build their success around. We enjoy working with progressive cattle operations that believe in producing the best cattle in the world. We are passionate and dedicated to this cattle industry and are proud of our 45 years of unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. We have been blessed. Werning Cattle Company has had the honor and privilege of creating some very elite herd sires over the years that have left their imprint on the Simmental breed. These genetic classics will continue to be utilized as long as there are cows. These W/C greats possess performance, maternal strength, structural soundness and oh so much more. We are extremely proud of what the good Lord has let us accomplish and we are happy he has more for us to do. This year’s W/C bull crop will again create excitement that we get to enjoy and share with you. The yearling bulls will be many 1/2 , 3/4 and full brothers that sell in volume. You really need to see these guys to appreciate their length, depth, thickness and soundness. This will be our largest group of them- performance, muscle, disposition and off the charts EPD’s. This is a great set of genetic leaders that will do great things for the industry. The Age Advantage bulls are tremendous. Fall born bulls and 20-month-old bulls that are semen tested and ready to work. You won’t find them better anywhere.

a legacy of powerful cows for the future. Bulls like RFS Heavy Hitter H4, RSF Herald H104, TSN Statesman K006, and TJ Sandhills Swag 816L represent the firm’s ongoing pursuit of performance, maternal strength, and carcass quality without compromising phenotypic excellence. Their dedication has produced influential cattle such as Miss Werning 534R, her renowned daughter Miss Werning KP 8543U, and standout bulls including W/C United 956Y, W/C Loaded Up 1119Y, W/C Bankroll 811D, and W/C Executive Order 8543B. These animals continue to enhance the pedigrees of their annual offering and have had a significant impact on the breed. The Werning Family’s commitment to excellence spans generations. Scott and Ashley, along with their children Creighten and Thatcher, are carrying the torch with the same passion and vision that have defined their operation for decades. Scott, a former SDSU Livestock Judging Team member and recipient of *Cattle Business Weekly*’s “Top 20 Under 40,” is well-regarded for producing cattle with skeletal quality, structural integrity, and a balance of end-product and maternal focus. Creighten, a driven young man with big aspirations, is already leaving his mark. His influence is evident in the family’s selection of top-tier genetics, such as TJ Sandhills Swag 816L, furthering the Werning legacy. His role in the future of this operation is crucial, and his passion fits the mold of those who precede him in the leadership role for the brand. This year’s offering of bulls and females is the densest and most impressive to date. The females, a source of immense pride for Dale, showcase unmatched maternal excellence. The bulls are stout, rugged, and designed to perform, representing some of the heaviest and most powerful herd sire prospects to carry the W/C mark of distinction. These animals are equipped to elevate seedstock programs and deliver exceptional results for both commercial and registered breeders. Within the pedigree ledgers of this sale offering there would be generations of excellence on both sides of the lineage and that is why so many of the respected breeders of SimGenetic seedstock make the appearance and investment the second Tuesday of February. Many past buyers have reported record-breaking success, achieving premium prices and enhanced profitability thanks to the genetic potential of W/C cattle. Mark your calendar for February 9 and 10, 2026—your opportunity to invest in the future of your breeding program with one of the industry’s most respected operations. Voted “The Best Beef Operation in the U.S.” by Sullivan Supply in both 2023 and 2025, the Werning Cattle Company stands behind every animal it produces and is committed to your success. We encourage you to contact the Werning Family or any member of the Innovation AgMarketing team for more information about this year’s exceptional offering. Join us at the climate- controlled sale facility at the ranch to experience outstanding Southeast South Dakota hospitality, including dinner Monday night prior to the frozen genetic offering. Plan to enjoy lunch and dinner before and after the unparalleled offering of seedstock on Tuesday.
Predictability and quality have never been more valuable than they are today. The cow/calf producer has enjoyed unprecedented returns over the past 2 plus years, and the outlook is nothing but continued optimism for the foreseeable future. Across the industry, progressive firms are seeking high-quality, improved seedstock options and are continuing to turn towards reputable operations like the Werning Family of Emery, South Dakota. The folks at Werning Cattle Company have been in the seedstock supplier game for five decades. Your thirst for the very best genetics and kind in a herd sire or a program revolutionizing female, drives them every day, 24-7-365! This multigenerational family operation knows no boundaries, and they are very experienced at exceeding the limits while raising the bar not only within their confines but also in the competitive industry. The edge they carry to be the best is evident in the success of the youthful third generation, the grandchildren, who excel at every level of competition in whatever they do. In today’s climate, that’s hard to come by in the world’s general population, but in the agricultural sector it’s a necessity for operations of any size or generation count to be viable and relevant for the years ahead. Dale Werning exemplifies dedication and excellence in the livestock industry. His journey began in the early 1970s, when he attended South Dakota State University, joined the collegiate livestock judging team, and took his first steps toward becoming a visionary in the beef business. That same year marked a turning point for the industry with the birth of the first Simmental- influenced calf in the U.S. A decade later, the Werning Family hosted their first production sale, solidifying their reputation as leaders in the field. Their reputation reached national acclaim when the Champion Market Steer at the Ohio State Fair, exhibited by the Sutherly Family, showcased the superior influence of the Werning breeding program. The 1980s were challenging for agriculturalists, with widespread droughts and soaring interest rates testing the resilience of farming and livestock operations nationwide. Yet Dale and his wife, Joan, persevered. Joan, a registered nurse, balanced her career while contributing tirelessly to the farm and ranch, ensuring their operation thrived during those tough years. Their perseverance paid off, and in 1989, the Werning Family was honored as South Dakota Cattlemen of the Year—a testament to their unwavering commitment to quality and genetic innovation. That same commitment thrives in the family and the program to this day. In 2001, Werning Cattle Company earned recognition as the “birthplace” of the popular SimAngus genetic cross with the sale of the first SimAngus bull at public auction. This pivotal moment solidified their reputation for innovation and excellence. Over the years, their breeding program has remained profit-driven and customer-focused, consistently acquiring elite Angus females and influential bulls to meet the demands of an ever-evolving industry. Standout acquisitions such as S A V Blackcap May 4136D and S A V Blackcap May 6644 exemplify their commitment to building

There is just so much we love about this bull. He packs 7 traits in the top 25% of the breed and has the W/C look of quality we strive for. This bull is attractive, muscular, and athletic. Anyone who follows our program will tell you that this cow family is one of our key building blocks. 036X and K36U are responsible for injecting so much longevity and quality into our program. Both cows produced natural calves until 14 years of age and were top donor cows. The daughters of these two key players are now carrying the torch. LOT 6
A full brother to the $18,000 W/C Midway that was Reck Brothers selection of the 2023 sale and a full sister commanded $12,500 to Paxton Cattle in the 2024 sale. Another full brother sold last year to Travis Balvin’s good herd. His mother continues to produce tremendous offspring no matter the sire. She herself is a full sister to the great W/C Executive Order who was the most widely used 3/4 blood bulls to date. Have a little fun and see if you can spot her three other sons that lead three other sire groups. It doesn’t stop there, check out the four full sisters that sell as lot’s 214 – 217. They are simply stunning. This bull is so good physically and may be her best yet. Oh and it keeps getting better, 1149N is the top REA bull in the sale at nearly 19 inches and still ranks in the top 10 for IMF, not an easy thing to do. As you can tell we like this guy and he has a lot of good things going for him. #1 REA BULL IN THE SALE!

Wow what a set of flush brothers! 964G cranks out another set of ET sons to highlight another W/C sale! 964G is starting to become a household name and has yet to fail us no matter the sire we have used. She has lit it up with sons by Right Now, W/C Kaiser, Statesman, Journeyman, and now its Heavy Hitter’s turn. 964G has over 20 sons working the country including many to notable breeders as Yardley’s, Pembrook’s, Reck’s, and Hilltop Simmentals. Lot 7 may be as intriguing of an individual as we have made in some time. His ability to appeal to a wide range of cattlemen and markets is very evident to us. He has been a standout at every stage of his life and had the look from day one. We are excited about his future and invite your inquiries.

TIME-TESTED DAM! IMPRESSIVE FLUSH BROTHERS FROM A
11
It seems to be a popular thing to do today among some breeders today to flush the hot new heifer that has never even had a calf yet. We have been guilty of that at times as well but have made a conscious effort to identify and propagate the “Good Old Cows” who have withstood the test of time and built their resume’s the old-fashioned way with superior production records. Cows that have proven to stay good on their feet and keep a quality udder. 5014C is one of those cows and is a 2015 born model. Her very first natural calf was W/C Double Down who commanded $105,000 in our 2018 sale. This set of four brothers are impressive and peas in a pod. All are extremely muscular and stout, and you get to pick if you want them solid black or with white on their face. Lot 14 has been a great conversation piece as you will notice he has cauliflower ear. He was born with normal ears, but the

Not only do we pride ourselves on making large sire groups for our customer’s to tie into but you will notice many of the natural calves to be bred similar on their dam’s side as well. This bull is very closely related to the Lots 7-9 flush brothers as he is from a Turnpike dam. 946N has a lot going on for himself. He’s a big REA bull who was big at weaning time and comes in an extra-long sided athletic package. He’s the kind to take a calf crop from good to great!

A purebred baldy bull who really reads well on paper with 10 traits in the top 25% of the population. If you want to select a Heavy Hitter son with a smaller birthweight and more calving ease you will have this bull marked. He is from a super good young triple threat daughter that produced one of the best bred heifers in the 2023 calf crop who we are now flushing extensively.

A super complete baldy bull cut from the same cloth as lot 16 with a very modest birthweight and an awesome phenotype. This bull should develop into one very impressive mature bull and front pasture kind. His dam is very powerful and stays in very good rig all year round. A bull to make those feeder steers that stick out and replacement females that command a premium.

Check out this pedigree! He has Heavy Hitter and Herald on top and bottom. Then throw in two of the most potent cow families in the beef business in SAV Blackcap May and Miss Werning 534R. His sire was a member of that incredible Heavy Hitter x SAV Blackcap May 4136D flush we sold in 2024 and is owned by Cully Stafford in Oregon. This bull blends the best of both breeds.

His dam is one of our brightest young stars who produced W/C Total Package who sold for $19,500 interest to Western Cattle Source and is the service sire to many of the bred heifers in this sale and he will be on display sale day. A real rancher’s bull with extra frame and length. This brockle faced bull has the extra extension to stretch out a set of English based cows and add payweight.

Check out this set of data! A negative BW all the way to 137+ at yearling weight. This bull can read and write, and it comes as no surprise coming from his outstanding W/C Lock Down dam. Lock Down naturally bred cows until he was 12 years old. He was one of our greatest breeding achievements. This bull comes highly recommended.

Top 2% for WW and YW, Top 1% for REA, YG, & BF. His Lock N Load dam has extra frame and performance. The kind of bull to quickly enhance a calf crop and allow you to sell more pounds on sale day. He’s got the numbers, he’s got the W/C look! One that can make an impact!

A trio of 3/4 Simmental 1/4 Angus bulls all bred very similar from Bullseye and Lock N Load Dams. All carry nice balanced EPD Profiles and exhibit great muscle shape with added eye appeal. They are the kind to make your calves stick out from the crowd and make buyers pay attention. The kind that keep buyers wanting them again the following year. A great place to consider if you want to tie some brothers together that look and read similar. STOUT UNIFORM CONSISTENT
