The angel of the Lord appeared and commissioned him to deliver the peo ple of Israel. He had the promise of the Lord’s continual presence. Real izing fully h is own insufficiency, Gideon asked for a sign so that he could be assured of his commission coming d irec tly from the Lord (Judges 6:17). Jehovah consumed his hastily improvised offering with fire, reminiscent of the blaze that consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar in the wilderness tabernacle. Gideon believed the di vine purpose of God, and led his people to complete victory. God de sires to give credence and authority to His own prophets and messengers whom He sends to preach His Word. An ambassador is an accredited dip lomatic agent of the highest rank. He is considered a personal repre sentative of his sovereign. In a simi lar manner, the preachers, prophets, and apostles were ambassadors of the Heavenly King. Every child of God, whether he lived in the Old Testament or in the New, is a rep resentative of Heaven here on earth. He’s a spiritual ambassador who has been given extraordinary powers to represent properly his Lord. Is this true of each of us? Many brave, heroic souls, whose true worth and beauty will never be known in this lifetime, may shine as the stars of the firmament over there. To live the life Christ would have us live may not always add years to our life but it will always add life to our years. Why not give God the blossom of your day today, not just the faded leaves? He who has helped you hitherto will help you all your journey through. You cannot buy a friend. True friends are God-given and their friendship lasts through all eternity.
