CONFEDERATION OF OLDER PERSONS’ ASSOCIATION OF THE
Title of Project: Enhancing COPAP Leadership Towards Organizational Sustainability
Confederation of Older Persons’ Association of the Philippines Inc (COPAP) was formed through the support of the Coalition of Services of the Elderly (COSE). It envisions having a national movement of older persons that advocate policies to address their issues and concerns. Started in 1989 in Barangay Commonwealth in Quezon City the Organization was formalized as a Confederation in 2006. COPAP is known as the people’s organization that pushes relevant policies, creates, and promotes community-based programs of older persons to ensure that they become a proactive sector in the society. Today, COPAP has 114 Older Persons Organization (OPO) members with more than 8,000 older persons from the Greater Manila Area (GMA) mostly belonging to urban poor families. COPAP is also known as one of the major forces that influenced the policy development related to older person sector in the country. Its major achievements are the passage of Cheaper Medicines Act (RA 9502), Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (RA 9994), granting social pension for indigent senior citizens (P500) monthly stipend, and the Universal Phil Health Coverage for all senior citizens (RA 10645). Currently, COPAP and other older person’s organizations are heightening their campaign on the universal social pension. Enhancing COPAP Leadership Towards Organizational Sustainability project improves the quality of Confederation of Older Persons’ Association of the Philippines (COPAP) programs and services through active participation and engagement of members.
The project specifically (1) strengthens Confederation’s capacities in managing their organization, programs, and services; and (2) increases awareness of the COPAP members on their rights and entitlements.
The project also enhances the organizational capacities of the confederation and its federation members, improving and sustaining their existing programs, services, and management. This is done through major activities conducted along awareness raising, assessment and planning, capacity building activities, monitoring and evaluation, etc.
