ULIKID PARENTS ORGANIZATION, INC. 44 Project Title: I BELONG! COUNT ME IN. Empowering and Engaging Children with Disabilities

The Ulugyun nga Inisyatiba sang mga may Kasablagan Itib-ong ang ila Dignidad or ULIKID- USAY Rehabilitation Center was registered with the Philippines’ Securities and Exchange Commission in October 2006. ULIKID envisions a holistic Center for Children with Disabilities (CWDs) that caters the growth, development, and empowerment of Children with Disabilities (CWDs) through capacity strengthening that harnesses potentials, self-reliance, and productivity. It provides proper rehabilitation, rehabilitation and development programs and services toward the realization of children with disabilities and their families’ independence to become proactive members of society. I Belong! Count Me In! project empowers and engages Children with Disabilities and their parents in the manifold activities and events that encourage children and people with disabilities (CWDs) to take steps towards taking a pro-active role in society, giving them the much-needed space to ventilate their needs so that society can respond accordingly.

Children and people with disabilities (C/PWDs) have a long history of oppression, abuse, shunning and being stigmatized by society. Present times have changed people’s attitudes

with regards to C/PWDs, however, a great number are still victimized with inhumane treatments, their lives are devalued, stigmatized as criminals, viewed as sickly, inaccurately tested, hidden in the shadows of their homes and not counted as part of society.
