Why do dogs love the Commercial Drive community? I think the Commercial Drive community is the best place for dogs in East Van and one of the best in the city. With access to so many dog off-leash areas, parks, and fields, it’s impossible for your dog to get bored. Dog owners here are amazing and the friendliest. I have worked with so many families here and a lot of my favorite dogs are from our community. You can create a routine to your (and your dog’s) liking, whether it’s walking the tree-lined side streets, playtime in parks, playdates with other dogs and exploring alleys and school playgrounds after hours. There are also so many awesome independent pet shops and groomers in the area. And if you’re travelling you’ll always find someone (like myself) nearby to take care of your fur babies. What’s your favourite dog-walking route? One of my favorite routes is walking down to Powell and then Wall Street — making a stop at Woodland park along the way. Then a nice long walk to Burrard View Park for off-leash playtime, and then ending the long adventure with treats from Long Live Cats and Dogs or Moonlight before heading back. Lots of sniffs, pets, and steps. Any tips for dog walking in the community? My one tip would be to enroll your dog in puppy school or at least one-on-one training (which I also provide) at an early age (and it’s never too late). Provide lots of enrichment and give your dog your full attention while you’re out with them — which means no screen time or AirPods. Your dog knows when you’re distracted. And if that’s a barrier then hire a dog walker. We love spoiling AND training your dogs.

A CURIOUS NOTE Eastward features a pet wash station, where you can keep your pup’s fur looking fine as they strut through town, and then wash the dirt off paws before they step back into your home.
