Italian Day on The Drive is one Vancouver’s most beloved cultural street festivals, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees from all generations and cultures. How could anyone resist delicious food, lively entertainment, family-friendly activities, and Italian culture? The Drive transforms into a bustling piazza, alive al fresco patios and carnival games, including pasta-eating contests and human foosball. It’s la dolce vita.
EASTSIDE CULTURE CRAWL Where: East Van When: Every November The Eastside Culture Crawl is an opportunity to snoop inside the studios of over 500 artists — from painters and sculptors to jewelers and photographers. Produced by the Eastside Arts Society, the four-day festival has been on the calendar for almost 30 years. Besides the open studios, there are workshops, demonstrations, exhibits, and artist talks, all showcasing our city’s vibrant visual arts scene.
You can barely go a day without coming upon a community event in East Van. This great, big, passionate community loves to express itself. Cultural gatherings are as common as cappuccino here. People constantly come together to celebrate music, art, books, film, or food. Sometimes these moments are planned, and other times you casually merge restaurant tables with likeminded strangers.
Legendary annual events celebrate the Drive’s history and inhabitants with grand fanfare. Peer inside vintage Italian cars while savouring a gelato, dance to live music in the middle of the street, or poke around your neighbours’ artist studios. These joyful events draw thousands to the community, from near and far. Make a lifelong connection with East Van and collect hundreds of stories as you hop between festivals and gatherings.
TROUT LAKE COMMUNITY CENTRE – SUMMER CONCERT SERIES Where: Trout Lake Community Centre When: Every Wednesday of the Summer You can’t miss the distinctive Trout Lake Community Centre — a stunning complex built in 2012 to bring community together. On Wednesday nights in summer, you’ll hear the centre, too. The free Summer Outdoor Concert Series showcases a diverse lineup of local performers making music in the park. Bring a picnic blanket, pack a dinner, and enjoy the tunes. Don’t miss the final concert, when an enchanting lantern procession circles Trout Lake.
TROUT LAKE FARMER’S MARKET Where: John Hendry Park When: April – October, Saturdays 9am – 2pm, A beloved weekend destination for almost 30 seasons, the Trout Lake Farmers’ Market has something for all appetites — seasonal produce; artisanal foods; craft beer, wine, and spirits; and handmade crafts. Support local farmers and other businesses, while filling your bag with ingredients for lunch or dinner. Live music and food trucks are a welcome bonus.
