DO YOU HAVE INVOLVEMENT WITH SHARE SCHEMES? If you do, the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) would like to hear from you. The OTS in addition to other projects are working on a review of the Approved employee share plans. The OTS explained to the CIPP that the time frame is tight as they are looking to publish a report before the 2012 Budget. They are currently in the information gathering phase of the project and are looking to speak to as many interested parties as possible that are involved in the implementation and operation of these plans, like yourselves. The OTS has asked that we raise the profile of this review with members. Can you help the review in any way? This is your chance to help shape the future. If you can help, please contact the review team before the end of this month at ots@ots.gsi.gov.uk . In addition, the OTS are interested in organising a road show to engage directly with those CIPP members who have a particular interest in share schemes. The OTS hope to run these road shows on either the morning of 1st or 2nd December. OTS PUBLISHES REPORTS ON PENSIONER TAXATION AND EMPLOYEE SHARE SCHEMES 7 February 2012 The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) have published the interim report on pensioner taxation and the first report on employee share schemes. Taxation of pensioners review The Office of Tax Simplification has now completed the first stage of the review of pensioners’ taxation. The initial stage of the review gathered comprehensive evidence of the tax complexity experienced by pensioners and has set out an order of priority to tackle the issues identified. The second stage of the review will explore these issues in more detail and make specific simplification recommendations.

The Office of Tax Simplification has now completed its review of tax advantaged employee share schemes. The review, published on 6th March 2012, sets out both legislative and administrative simplification proposals. The OTS will now continue to the next stage of the review, examining the complexities involved in non tax advantaged (unapproved) share schemes.
