PENSIONS LANGUAGE GUIDE

20 July 2011 The DWP have published a guide to help provide simple and consistent language about the complex subject of pensions and the ongoing reforms. It builds on work undertaken by NEST, the Pensions Regulator and others to help people understand pensions. The DWP acknowledge that many people are daunted by pensions and sometimes the language used is complex and puts people off. The research has provided seven key principles which will shape their approach to the information provided for individuals. This guide will be particularly useful for employers to explain in simple terms to their workforce about the automatic enrolment rules which come into force next October 2012. Working with partners, the DWP have used this and other pieces of research to develop the Automatic enrolment and pensions language guide , which they will use to simplify their communications in the run up to October 2012. It is hoped that the guide will also influence the language used by the wider pensions industry. The DWP intend to update and add to the language guide. Visit DWP’s website for further information about the Workplace Pensions Reform 20 July 2011 Draft regulations to cement workplace pension saving reforms have been published which will underpin automatic enrolment. The regulations have been drafted to include changes to make it easier for employers to understand and operate their new duties. The CIPP Policy team will be reviewing the consultation and will publish a survey for member input if deemed necessary. The consultation period will run for twelve weeks, ending on 11 October and includes: amendments to existing legislation to reflect policy changes arising from the Making Automatic Enrolment Work Review, including measures to manage the burdens on business, such as allowing employers to apply waiting periods in respect of eligible jobholders; a series of minor amendments intended to clarify the policy and remove legislative obstacles; and draft guidance for persons certifying money purchase, personal pension and certain hybrid schemes. It is proposed that these regulations will come into force in early 2012. Follow this link to view all related documents DRAFT REGULATIONS CONSULTATION
