Specifically within the Collection of Student Loans environment: · Those employers who have employees for whom student loan deductions are already being made, may find they receive an unexpected SL1 start notice, and · some employers may receive a SL1 start notice for employees who have already left their employment. In both cases the guidance remains unchanged. Please follow the link below for full details Student loan borrowers: Repaying your loan through Self Assessment NEW GUIDANCE FOR PENSION PAYERS WHO ARE PAYING PENSION INCOME TO STUDENT LOAN BORROWERS 11 January 2012 Revised guidance has been published by HMRC for pension payers who pay occupational pensions to individuals who are repaying a student loan. 24 February 2012 Following consultation, the government has announced that there will be no charge on graduates repaying their loans early. In a consultation document published last June the government asked whether there should be a charge for early repayment, and if so, what form such a charge would take. Most respondents did not favour the introduction of a charge. Business Secretary Dr Vince Cable said: “We have listened to the evidence from those who responded to the consultation and as a result we will not be introducing a charge on early repayments. ”Our student finance package is fair, sustainable and progressive and will remain so without a charge for early repayment.” Universities and Science Minister David Willetts said: “This decision gives students beginning their studies this autumn clarity about the repayment arrangements that will be in place when they graduate.
