Remotely Supervised Online Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and Online Chair Yoga at Home!

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? • 60 years or older • Have long-term knee pain • Have Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia • Do not have a brain tumor, seizure, epilepsy, or stroke

You may be able to join a research study looking at how online therapy can help with knee pain, thinking skills, and mood for adults with Alzheimer’s disease and similar conditions. The study will take place in your home. You and your caregiver will receive gift cards for completing the study—up to $200 each, for a total of $400. Common side effects of tDCS include itching, mild irritation, discomfort, tingling, and a mild burning feeling. For online chair yoga, you might feel muscle soreness or tiredness.

If you join, you’ll receive a headset for video calls and yoga supplies. In week 1, you’ll do 20 minutes of tDCS and 30 minutes of chair yoga each weekday. In weeks 2–4, you’ll do this three times a week. After each session, you’ll answer one question about your knee pain. You’ll visit the University of Arizona two times during the study. tDCS does not use medication. Research shows that tDCS is safe and comfortable. It has been used in many studies to help with pain in adults.
