PimaCare at Home
Honoring Older Adults and Veterans: Supporting Brain & Vision Health At PimaCare at Home, we honor our older adults and veterans by ensuring they receive compassionate, in-home care tailored to their needs. In May, we highlight the importance of brain health and vision wellness, which are vital in aging with dignity and independence at home. Honoring Our Veterans We proudly support veterans with high-quality in-home care, helping them age safely and comfortably in their homes. Our services are designed to honor their service and provide the support they need to live fulfilling lives.
Promoting Vision Health We accompany older adults to eye exams and assist with daily tasks, ensuring they stay safe and active. Good vision health is essential for maintaining independence and preventing accidents. Caring for Memory Loss Veterans may experience memory loss differently compared to non-veterans. Veterans, especially those who have experienced traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) or concussions during their service, face unique challenges. Consider these scenarios when caring for a veteran: • Mental Health Factors: Depression and stress are common among veterans and can expedite memory loss. These psychological factors can impact overall cognitive health. • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): PTSD is common among veterans and can contribute to memory loss. The stress and emotional trauma associated with PTSD can affect cognitive functions, including memory. • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): Veterans who have sustained TBIs are at a higher risk of developing memory loss and cognitive impairments. From mild concussions to severe head trauma, the long-term effects may include memory loss, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and an increased risk of dementia.
• Occupational Exposure: Veterans exposed to low-level blasts (LLBs) or handling heavy artillery may also experience cognitive impairments, including memory loss. Exposure may have long-term effects on brain health. Given these unique challenges, veterans must receive specialized care and support to manage and mitigate the risks associated with memory loss. Regular monitoring, mental health support, and cognitive therapies can be beneficial in maintaining brain health. Our dedicated caregivers support individuals with Alzheimer’s and other memory challenges, offering gentle assistance and maintaining a familiar routine to enhance their quality of life.
