Unlock Your Leadership Potential at the 5th Annual Landscaper’s Summit THE SUMMIT THAT WILL TRANSFORM YOUR BUSINESS
Do you want to make 2025 your best year yet? You’ll need the right tools to do that, and I know just the place to get them. The 5th Annual Landscaper’s Summit is just around the corner, and if you haven’t signed up yet, now’s the time to do it. This event isn’t just another run-of-the-mill sales and marketing workshop; it’s a game-changer for high-achieving landscape owners looking to push their businesses to new heights in 2025. I’ve learned in this industry that time is our most valuable resource, so when I tell you that investing just one full day at this summit will pay off in dividends, I mean it. We’re not just bringing in the same old recycled content. This year’s Summit is packed with fresh perspectives, new strategies, and tools you can take home and implement immediately. And here’s the best part: I guarantee you’ll walk away with at least one idea that will completely transform your business. If not, we offer a 100% money-back guarantee, no questions asked. So, there’s no risk — just a whole lot of potential reward. Now, let’s discuss why this event will be different and why you need to attend. The economy is shifting, and the COVID-19 boom is officially behind us. We’re stepping into a new normal, and it’s crucial to position your business strategically for what’s coming next. The Summit will focus heavily on building high- performing teams and leadership, helping you roll into 2025 with a solid plan for growth.
We’ve got fantastic speakers, starting with Joshua Gillow from YES Express Sales Academy. He’s bringing a unique approach to customer service, showing how the principles of the hospitality industry can revolutionize the way we serve our clients in the landscape business. It’s not just about your work; it’s about how you show up and serve the people you’re doing it for. Then there’s Steve Bousquet from Green Profit Academy, a certified Gallup Strengths Coach. Steve will dive into strengths-based leadership and how you can leverage your strengths and those of your team to achieve your leadership goals. His insights will allow you to lead more effectively and inspire your team to perform at their best. And, of course, I’ll be delivering the State of the Union address for landscapers, covering the latest marketing trends. I’ll discuss what it means to be in a competitive market and how to position your marketing strategies accordingly. It’s all about understanding your specific target service area and deciding where to allocate your resources. Plus, we’ll have more surprise speakers and the chance to hear from our three Landscape Leader of the Year finalists: Kelly Slater from Pleasant Landscapes, Scott Lawn from Greenway Landscape Design & Build, and Tyler Lombardo from MVP Snow n’ Lawn. You’ll see their “What’s Working
Now” sessions live and vote for who will win the first-ever Landscape Leader of the Year Award. So, mark your calendars for Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain Time. communication and collaboration. Without understanding each other’s strengths, teams can struggle with miscommunication and conflict. CliftonStrengths® offers a solution by providing a common language for discussing how each person can contribute to the team’s success. This understanding promotes a more cooperative and dynamic work environment where everyone’s talents are valued and utilized. What to Expect with CliftonStrengths ® Implementing CliftonStrengths® in your business can lead to three major changes: 1. A Positive Shift in Culture: Instead of trying to fix weaknesses, you can maximize strengths and create a more positive, inclusive work environment. 2. Boosted Engagement and Productivity: When people work in roles that align with their strengths, they’re more engaged, motivated, and ready to perform at a higher level. 3. Improved Team Collaboration: Understanding and appreciating each other’s strengths improves teamwork and conflict resolution.
What Is CliftonStrengths ® ? CliftonStrengths® is a game-changer in how we think about personal and professional growth. Created by Don Clifton at Gallup, this assessment tool offers deep insights into your top strengths and provides a road map for further development. Whether you’re looking to boost your leadership skills or enhance your team’s performance, understanding your strengths is the first step toward lasting improvement. How Strengths-Based Leadership Works When you align your team’s roles with their strengths, you’re not just improving productivity — you’re creating a more engaged and motivated workforce. CliftonStrengths® gives leaders the tools to assign tasks strategically, ensuring everyone works in areas where they naturally excel. This approach doesn’t just make work more enjoyable; it also leads to better outcomes for the entire organization.

THE STRANGE GAS LAW Why the 9/10 of a Cent?
Gas prices are often a topic of conversation, usually for less-than-pleasant reasons. Whenever the subject appears in the news, it is most often because prices have become outrageously high. However, this article will take a different approach. Have you ever wondered why gas price tickers include a 9/10 of a cent at the
After all, the average price of a gallon of gas in 1932 was just $0.18, so a one-cent tariff represented a more than 5% increase in price. In today’s money, it would be equivalent to a $0.22 tax per gallon of gas. In 1933, the gas tariff accounted for 8% of the federal government’s tax revenue.
Fractional Prices Gas station owners paid the new tariff

Great Depression Decisions The 1930s were a time of great economic
uncertainty. The stock market crashed in 1929, and the federal government took extensive measures to balance the budget. Among these was the Revenue Act of 1932. This law introduced several tax hikes, including a more than 20% increase in
station owners would advertise that they were paying, say, half of the one-cent tariff on gasoline, which means their prices would only increase by 5/10 of
estate and personal income taxes. However, it also introduced a one-cent tariff on gasoline and fuel oil. While this may not seem like a lot in today’s currency — the average cost of a gallon of gas now is around $3.53 — back then, it was a significant burden on motorists.
a cent. Over time, the tariff became less relevant, but fractional prices remained. This has largely contributed to the psychological aspect of paying 9/10 of a cent rather than a full cent — the same thinking behind charging $1.99 rather than $2 for a product.

COACHING ISN’T JUST ABOUT SPORTS
Coaching isn’t something I ever saw myself doing, especially not for my son’s soccer team. But here we are, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Oct. 6 is National Coaches Day, and it has me reflecting on how I unexpectedly found myself in the role of a coach. It all started when I was inspired by one of our clients, Jake Harris, who made time to coach a football team despite already having
his hands full. Watching Jake balance his business responsibilities with his commitment to coaching sparked something in me. When I received an email that my son’s soccer team was on the verge of being disbanded due to a lack of volunteers, I knew I had to step in. Initially, I thought, “I’m too busy.” But then I remembered why we moved to this community in the first place — to build a life centered on connection and involvement, not just work. This was my chance to contribute to the community and be a part of something bigger than my day-to- day business operations. So, I decided to become a coach, even though it forced me to take time away from my business. To my surprise, 95% of the kids stuck with me, and some even brought their friends to join the team. Coaching quickly became about more than just teaching soccer. It was about instilling confidence, cultivating teamwork, and creating a supportive environment
where the kids could grow, both on and off the field. Seeing their progress and excitement each week has been one of the most rewarding experiences. It’s also reminded me just how vital it is to find balance. As business owners, we often think we can’t afford to take time off or step away from work. But finding fulfillment outside of work — whether it’s coaching a soccer team or pursuing another passion — can make us better leaders. It’s all about setting up your business to run smoothly even when you’re not there 24/7. You want your business to thrive even when you’re out on a soccer field. So, on this National Coaches Day, I encourage anyone who’s ever thought about coaching or making time for something meaningful to take the plunge. If Jake Harris can make time to coach football while running a successful business, so can you. It’s not just good for you; it’s good for your community, your team, and, ultimately, the durability of your business.
