Why offer this program? Conditions like hypertension, prediabetes, and high cholesterol impact nearly half of all American adults. By partnering with Omada, you can offer at-risk individuals the help they need to proactively manage their health and work towards positive outcomes.
Eligibility
Who is eligible for Omada? Omada is available to people who are at risk for type 2 diabetes or heart disease. The program focuses on weight loss through nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral change. Potential participants can determine their risk of prediabetes or heart disease by taking the 1-minute health screener. Are family members eligible for Omada? Yes, adult family members (who are 18 years and older) covered under the company’s Cigna health plan and meet the clinical enrollment criteria are eligible for Omada. Does a participant have to be diagnosed with prediabetes to participate? No—in fact, 90% of people with prediabetes don’t even know they have it, according to the CDC. Omada focuses on weight loss through modest lifestyle changes, and is beneficial for people who want to lose weight, including those who have been diagnosed with prediabetes or who are otherwise at risk for diabetes. Potential participants can determine their risk of prediabetes by taking the 1-minute health screener. If an employee already has type 2 diabetes, can they still join the Omada program? No, the program being offered is designed to specifically address the needs of at-risk individuals. Employees who are currently living with type 2 diabetes should inquire with their benefits/HR team to determine what other programs are available. What if an employee is not at risk of a chronic disease, but wants to lose a little bit of weight? To ensure maximum impact, Omada is designed to specifically address the needs of individuals at risk for chronic disease. Employees who do not qualify should inquire with their benefits/HR team to determine what other programs are available. What happens if a participant leaves their company or decides to get new benefits at open enrollment or due to a life change? Their participation in the Omada program is funded by their employer or health plan. If a participant leaves their company, Omada will give them the opportunity to stay in the program on a self pay basis. If they change benefits at their current employer, the Omada program may still be available. Participants should inquire with their benefits/HR team to determine if Omada is still available through their new benefits offering. Sign-up, cost, and getting started How much does it cost participants? Nothing—their employer will cover the entire cost of the program for employees and adult dependents who are on the company medical plan offered through Cigna, meet certain risk criteria for type 2 diabetes or heart disease, and are accepted into the program.

What is the application process? Individuals interested in Omada can take a 1-minute health screener to find out if they meet the clinical enrollment criteria to participate in the program. They will use their employer’s customized Omada landing page URL to access the health screener. The risk screener asks a few questions about height, weight, and health conditions. Those who are eligible to enroll will receive an email invitation to join the Omada program. What are the specific steps involved in getting started? Here’s what interested individuals can expect. 1. They will use their employer’s customized Omada landing page URL to access the health screener. 2. They click the button to take the 1-minute health screener. 3. If the results indicate a risk for diabetes or heart disease, they can then complete a brief online application. 4. In 1-2 days they’ll receive an email from support@omadahealth.com letting them know if they’re accepted. If someone is accepted, the email will provide instructions on setting up their Omada account online. 5. Participants can set up their account on their own time. No strict deadline, but the sooner they set up, the sooner they can start. 6. Within 1-2 weeks of completing account setup, participants receive a welcome kit in the mail with their scale. 7. Groups kick off each Sunday. This entails an introductory online message from the coach, the first lesson being “unlocked,” and access to the group message board. (Please be advised that Omada may choose not to kick off new groups on the Sundays before or after major U.S. holidays when those holidays may interfere significantly with shipping or group momentum.)
Small group and health coach
What will group interaction be like? Participants will be matched with a group of other people who are experiencing the Omada journey together. The group mainly interacts through a simple conversation board. Participants can post new topics, like their thoughts, a question, or an update about themselves, or they can reply to another group member with a comment. Their health coach uses the conversation board, too. Will participants be in a peer group with other employees at their company? They might, but it is unlikely. Omada does not specifically attempt to group participants with colleagues—instead, groups are based on other variables that would be more beneficial to their success in the program, such as geography and risk factors. How do participants communicate with their health coach? Health coaches are available via the in-app group board and private messaging. The health coach is present to guide and support participants throughout the program. Omada asks participants to take the lead in setting the tone for their relationship with their coach, as every participant is looking for something slightly different from this relationship. How much can participants communicate with their health coach? There is no limit to participants’ interactions with their health coach. They are allowed to message with their health coach as many times as they like during their time in the Omada program.
Tools and Lessons
What type of scale is included? The welcome kit includes an Omada digital scale that’s cellularly connected to each participant’s Omada account. This means that their daily weigh-ins are automatically transmitted to their private profile, where their weight progress is charted and shared only with them and their health coach. The scale uses a cellular network for transmission. No Wi-Fi is needed, and no setup is required. When should participants start weighing in? Participants will weigh in regularly throughout the program, and will be asked to start as soon as the group kicks off. If an employee plus a spouse, partner or adult dependent both join the Omada program, should they share a scale? No. Each participant will receive their own scale, health coach and peer group. The scales are preprogrammed to transmit each participant’s weight data to their own health coach and program. Tip: If more than one person is enrolled in the Omada program in the same household, participants are recommended to place a sticker or tape with their names on the scale so there is no confusion. Do participants get to keep the tools after the Omada program ends? Yes, all the tools that are provided by Omada during the program are meant for participants to keep What are lessons like? As Omada is a lifestyle program and not a diet or quick fix, our weekly lessons focus on whole life changes. The engaging and interactive content covers topics like nutrition, stress management, time management, and problem-solving skills. Lessons typically take about 15 minutes per week. Participants also receive links to optional research and articles.

What will participants eat? The Omada program does not prescribe a meal plan or tell participants what they can and cannot eat. It doesn’t encourage a crash-diet mindset. Instead, Omada works with participants through lessons, food tracking, and the guidance of their health coach to learn how to make the healthiest possible choices for themselves independently and sustainably. If they follow a particular diet for cultural, religious, or medical reasons, or just by choice, their health coach can work with them to take the information learned in lessons and apply that learning to their unique lifestyle. Because Omada focuses on building healthy habits that participants can sustain over time, they will not be asked to count calories during the program. Awareness of what they eat is more important to long-term health than counting every calorie, and it’s also a more sustainable lifestyle choice. Is there a certain time participants have to log in to participate? There is no certain time participants must log in at the beginning or throughout the program. They can always complete daily and weekly tasks and interact with their group when it is convenient for them. The Omada website is available to them at all times.
Privacy
What privacy measures are in place? As a healthcare company, Omada takes security and participant privacy very seriously, and operates in accordance with all applicable privacy and data protection laws. The company employs best-in-class physical, technical and administrative controls to protect personal information. To learn more about Omada’s use and protection of personal information, please reference Omada’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. What personal information will be shared with a participant’s group? Group members can see each other’s photo, first name, hometown, and introduction note. Participants are free to upload any picture that represents them; some participants prefer to upload a photo of a family pet or their favorite sports team, which is fine! Concerning progress through the program, others in the group can see when a participant last logged in, their lesson completion progress, and a progress bar that measures weight loss as a percentage without sharing actual weight. No one in the group will be able to see a participant’s private information such as weight or last name. Should participants be worried about their employer seeing how much weight they have lost? No. Omada takes participants’ privacy very seriously and does not share individualized results with employers.
