injury that could keep them from playing?" or "What's wrong with them?"

necessary to recover fully is greater than 8 hours. When it comes to nutrition, athletes closely monitor their protein intake, water intake, good carbohydrates, and macro and micronutrients. Their body can't recover or perform without the proper fuel. At Myokinetix, I've taken these three insights and created a place that brings the methods professional athletes use to take care of their bodies to the people in our community. The job of everyone at Myokinetix is to work for the patient and not for anyone else. Third parties like a team or coach can't influence us; we always do what's best for the individual we're working with. We understand the differing physical needs of particular sports and never apply a "one size fits all" approach. Our facility utilizes the most up-to-date technologies to offer tailored strategies, and everyone on our team continually researches and learns about new advancements in our field to provide the best care possible. We've also developed a nutrition course to help people understand what their body needs to thrive. These resources are only typically available to professionals, but at Myokinetix, we aim to make the best care available to everyone . So, if you're curious about how we can help you optimize your body to reach your goals, join me for a Wellness Q&A at Myokinetix. You can call 973-585-4990 to sign up to get on our Wellness Q&A list!

That's why many professional athletes seek outside physical therapists or trainers that understand their bodies and their sport's unique needs. A football player's body differs from a soccer player's, and even amongst players in the same sport, their bodies vary greatly. That's why accomplished athletes hire trainers whose only job is to focus on them and provide their body with everything it needs to succeed.

Even before opening MyoKinetix, my goal was to constantly research what the best athletes do to care for their bodies. Because when it comes to the pros, staying in top physical condition is

The second thing professional athletes do is seek facilities that offer an "all in one" experience to diversify their recovery with the

their job, and all it takes is one injury to lose their source of income. So naturally, when I began my research journey, I asked myself, "If the pros need to ensure

latest and greatest technologies to help them stay in tip-top shape. Pros often have full multi-day schedules, including acupuncture, shock wave therapy, training, and physical therapy. When their body provides their primary source of income, professionals utilize many different recovery options to lower their risk of injury and, subsequently, loss of employment. The third and final thing I've found that professional athletes do to take care of their bodies is to prioritize their diet and sleep. Sleep is the body's primary method of recovery, and in a job that requires someone's top physical performance every day, sleep is about more than sweet dreams. Most professional athletes sleep for a minimum of 8 hours a night, and if the athlete is younger (such as in high school or even D1), the sleep

their bodies are always in top shape, what resources are they using? And what's more, how can I make them available to others?" The first thing I discovered was that athletes at the top of their game almost always use outside services that are not part of their team. The reason is that those trainers and physical therapists work for the team, not for them. If we use the NFL as an example, those health care professionals provide care for roughly 40 to 50 players. There's no way that those trainers and therapists can specialize their care enough to the needs of one individual. The same is true for any team. Some coaches consider it a weakness when one player visits the physical therapist too often. They think, "Is there a persistent

WHY SETTLE F

There always seems to be a new dieting fad every couple of months, but one that has stayed around longer than expected is intermittent fasting. Many of us couldn’t imagine fasting for days on end, but intermittent fasting provides the benefits of fasting without asking us to wait days between meals. Intermittent fasting is a term used to describe eating patterns with differing amounts of fasting. There are three main types. The first and most common type is time- restricted eating, and it’s one of the easiest intermittent fasting diets to stick to daily. Time-restricted fasting has users decide on an eating window lasting between four and 12 hours. If it isn’t during your eating window, you’re actively fasting. The next is the 5:2 diet, which calls for two full days of fasting each week, with a regular eating schedule for the other five days. Finally, there’s alternate-day fasting, in which users alternate between fasting one day and eating normally the next. Regardless of which type of intermittent fasting you attempt, you’ll likely notice many benefits within the first few months. Studies have shown that it can improve your cholesterol levels and help you maintain proper blood sugar levels. Many studies have shown that those who practice intermittent fasting have no problem shedding weight and also keeping it off. Many users report losing 3%–7% of their body weight within eight weeks of fasting. Studies even found intermittent fasting can lower the risk of breast cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and other serious conditions. On page 1, we talked about how at Myokinetix, we work for YOU, not for a third party. And because you and your health are our focus, we view health care differently than most. The truth is private equity firms primarily fund the health care industry. If you didn't know, the only objective of a private equity firm is to buy companies, overhaul them, and either

resell them later or collect profits from the purchase. At the end of the day, they're all about money

earned and money lost. Unfortunately, this means the health care industry isn't structured primarily

for you to get well anymore — it's to make a profit.

CODY’S FUN FACT

Does this all sound too good to be true? That’s because it likely is. The Journal of the American Medical Association looked at 108 studies conducted on the alleged

OR BASELINE?

NO PINKY TOE, NO PROBLEM Jamie Kubach's Unstoppable Mindset

to Set Their Own Goals

That's why at many different physical therapy facilities, their criteria for wellness are unrealistically low and only focus on returning you to a baseline level of health. In their eyes, if you can walk up and down the stairs, they've successfully helped you recover. By cutting care extremely short and defining wellness by only what's necessary, these facilities can turn over patients at a much higher rate, resulting in lower costs and higher profits. But what if you want to do more with your health than just walk up and down stairs? What if you want to progress to be better than you were before an injury? At Myokinetix, you set the criteria for wellness. You have complete control of your journey, and no matter your goals, we're here to support you every step of the way. You know yourself, your goals, and your body better than anyone.

At Myokinetix, we help people recover from injuries like sprains, torn ligaments,

broken bones, and even losing a pinky toe! That happened to our patient,

Jamie Kubach, a lacrosse goalie.

with friends and hopped on the handlebars of her friend's bike for a ride. When her

ride was over, and she tried to hop off, her foot got caught in the wheel. To free herself from the moving bike,

Jamie pulled her foot from the wheel, which caused the spokes to nearly tear her pinky toe from her foot. When she got to the hospital, doctors informed her that they would need to amputate her pinky toe. Two months later, after beginning school again, Jamie started physical therapy with us at Myokinetix after a friend who tore her ACL recommended us. "They made the recovery process easier and more helpful," she said. When Jamie first came in, she couldn't walk and had to use a hot pink knee scooter. So, we met her where she was and helped her perform small exercises to regain strength in her foot and leg. "It wasn't about just my foot. It was about my calves, my quads, and even my core." Jamie could start walking again a few months later, and we adapted her care to help her transition. It wasn't easy, and Jamie faced challenges along the way, especially with the mental aspect of losing her toe, "I had some days where I'd wonder, am I really going to be back to 100%? I had days where I doubted whether I would be fully prepared," she told us. But Jamie is incredibly strong and had her team at Myokinetix to support her, "It was actually fun to come to PT, and coming here was honestly the joy of a lot of my days." She also attributes her mental fortitude to Kobe Bryant, "I try to have a Kobe mentality. He has a quote, ‘Don't quit in the middle; you quit at the end,’ and I'm not done yet, so I can't quit. The end is when I graduate, and I'm done with college lacrosse, so I'm still in the middle. I have to keep going." And we know she will!

This is a must-visit for any animal lover in your family. THE BRONX ZOO You don’t usually think about seeing exotic animals when you visit New York City, but the Bronx Zoo is one of the best places to view animals in America. Opened in 1899, the Bronx Zoo is responsible for many of the advancements relating to animal captivity. This was one of the first zoos to ditch cages for natural environments and create an animal hospital. With over 6,000 species, there’s an animal for everyone at the Bronx Zoo. THE LIVING DESERT ZOO AND GARDENS While the San Diego Zoo is often boasted as California's largest and best zoo, another zoo is worth checking out. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens outside Palm Springs has entertained visitors for decades. There are events at this zoo every day, one of the most popular being the keeper connections and animal encounters, where you get up close and personal with the animals while learning more about their habitats and lifestyles.
