FEBRUARY 17 Power in Godly Unity

"Prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him” (Acts 12:5). There is power in united prayer. O f course, there is power in the prayer of an individual, but there is vastly increased power in united prayer. God delights in the unity of His people, and seeks to em phasize it in every way, and so He pro nounces a special blessing upon united prayer. . . . Where there is real agreement, where the Spirit of God brings two be lievers into perfect harmony as concerning that which they may ask of God, where the Spirit lays the same burden on two hearts, in such prayer there is absolutely irre sistible power.—R ..A . T orrey . FEBRUARY 18 Unreasonable Love “Because the Lord loved you” (Deut. 7:8). - If I were to puzzle myself all my life to try and find out why God loved me, I should be able to give no other reason than because He is love. In the glory, I shall be as unable to explain G od’s love as I am now. “ God is love,” therefore He loves me. What a comfort this is to our hearts! By this we can slay that monster, unbelief. If the temptation comes to you, “ I am unworthy, unfit for God,” say,-‘fit was be cause I am so unholy and unlovely that He loved me.” The love of God outstrips the love of man as far as eternity outstrips time.— H. W . S oltau . “ When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isa. 43:2). Whatever your troubles and sorrows are at this hour, God has allowed them to come to afford you an opportunity of preparation for future days. Do not be discouraged, or give up the fight,'or be unfaithful in the very little. Do not say you cannot bear it. You can. There is sufficient grace in H im ; appropriate it, use it, rest upon Him. Be very thankful that He has given you this time of discipline and searching; and now, taking to yourself all that He waits to give — the grace, the comfort, and assurance—go forward 1 He cannot fail you.— F. B. M eyer . "W ilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” (Psa. 85:6). Revival is a blessing which can begin in prayer only. Somebody somewhere must find time to lay hold upon God for it. Somewhere there must be a heart that is weighed down with the burden of spiri tual impoverishment, the barrenness of the days, the wilderness of the pilgrim’s life. . . . If we are going to have a revival it will have to begin in a broken spirit before God, not in the mass, but in the individual where G od’s hand lays hold of the human heart and breaks it down as a stone is FEBRUARY 20 For Believers FEBRUARY 19 With Us in Trouble
