we are to say, “ I am not worthy of the least of all thy mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy ser vant.” ' The weight of a great answer to prayer seems almost too much for us. The grace of it is “ too wonderful” for us. It throws up in such startling relief the dis proportion between our little, poor, feeble cry, and the great shining response of God’s heart and hand. . . . But it is more hum bling still, when we stand face to face with great things which the Lord has done for us and given us, which we never asked at all, never even thought of asking—“ royal bounty,” with which not even a prayer had to do. Let us . . . give thanks for the overwhelming mercies for which we never asked.— F rances R. H ayergal . The Lord Jesus Christ remains the only Being of whom, without gross flattery, it could be asserted, “ He is altogether lovely.” His perfection does not glitter; it glows. The saintliness of the Lord Jesus is so warm and human that it attracts and in spires. How wholesomely and genuinely human He is I He receives sinners and eats with them: all kinds of sinners— Nico- demus, the moral, religious sinner; and Mary of Magdala, “ out of whom went seven devils,” the shocking kind of sinner. He comes into sinful lives as a bright, clear stream enters a stagnant pool. The stream is not afraid of contamination, but its sweet energy cleanses the' pool. — C. I. S cofield . Every word that ever the Eternal spoke was summed up in one; great utterance: “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the W ord was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as o f the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Jesus Christ in His fullness is the consummation and summary of every utterance of God. W ill you then let Him enter every room of your life in a daily and continuous proc ess that we call sanctification, starting may be, as it does very often, with a tremen dous crisis— a crisis when the last key of the last room is given up?— C olin C. K err . FEBRUARY 25 Consummate Glory “Beholding : the glory of the Lord” (2 Cor. 3:18). Learn much of the Lord Jesus. For every look at yourself, take ten looks at Christ. He is altogether lovely.
