AVS Annual Report 2024

Isla Murphy - Middle School Dean of Students With the support of AVS, this past summer I had the opportunity to attend the “Intro to Culture of Care” workshop offered by Restorative Justice Education designed to provide a deep dive into restorative practices and their application in educational settings. Over the course of the program, I explored various strategies for cultivating a culture of empathy and respect, learning how to implement restorative approaches to build stronger, more connected communities within schools. The curriculum covered essential topics such as conflict resolution, effective communication, and creating inclusive environments. As I transition into my new role as Middle School Dean of Students, the skills and insights gained from this workshop have empowered me to begin designing a holistic approach to belonging and restorative practices. Restorative Justice Education’s philosophy, which offers a transformative approach to discipline by focusing on repairing harm and rebuilding relationships, aligns with my goal of promoting student growth and resilience. It has equipped me with practical tools to effectively lead and support our students in their academic and personal development.
