AVS Annual Report 2024

FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELIZABETH DREW (Eilis ‘24)

It’s an exciting time at Alta Vista School as we welcome our new Head of School, Rob Cousins, and embark on the implementation of a new strategic plan. Both the head search and the strategic planning process brought community members together to reflect on what AVS means to us and to envision its future together. Our community cares deeply about the AVS’s engaging approach to inquiry-based STEAM education and the educators who inspire our students every day. On behalf of the AVS Board of Trustees, I want to thank the generous community members who contributed their time, insights, and support in this pivotal year. We will always be grateful to former Head of School, Dr. Sean Hamer, for all he did to bring our school to its current position of strength while keeping students at the center of every decision. AVS’s many successes would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of Katie Gibbons, Dr. Liz Davis, and the Senior Leadership Team. We deeply appreciate their partnership. I also extend the board’s gratitude to the Parent and Family Group and the parent volunteers who connect our community and make sure our educators feel how much we love them. Our faculty brings the essential magic (and science!) to AVS, and it is impossible to thank them enough for what they do for our students every day. Finally I want to thank my successor, Board President Mary Szczepanik, for stepping up and leading the board into the next phase in the life of our school. AVS is so lucky to have you. It’s been a joy and a privilege to be part of the AVS community over the last ten years and to see my own child develop as a learner and a human being while watching the school grow into its own unique potential. I’m thrilled to see how the school continues to evolve under Rob’s leadership.
