We built upon our STEAM curriculum by expanding Engineering Challenges to our Middle School students. Through hands-on projects and problem-solving activities, students were able to apply principles of engineering and design to real-world challenges such as dropping an egg from the 3rd floor of the Lower School to racing mousetrap cars, fostering creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. Recognizing the importance of executive function skills in academic success, we implemented a formal executive function curriculum in the 6th grade Bridges class. This program provided students with strategies and tools to enhance their organization, time management, and self-regulation skills. In our continuous efforts to promote literacy and a love for reading, we made significant updates to our library and expanded our collection by adding over 100 new books. Finally, we introduced a personal safety self-defense course to all students. Additionally, our 8th graders engaged in a targeted drug education program, empowering them to make informed and responsible choices regarding substance use and abuse. As we celebrate our accomplishments, we look forward to building upon our successes and continuing to inspire creativity, curiosity, and innovation at Alta Vista Middle School.
