A sante and Jasmine K. White are a truly dynamic force in the entertainment industry. In addition to their distinguished careers working as members of the Directors Guild of America for some of the industry’s top studios, they produce and direct independent projects together. Jasmine and Asante gave us a fascinating glimpse into their life and work together. HOW DID YOU EACH BREAK INTO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY? Asante: With my sights set on corporate America, I moved from Columbus, OH to Atlanta, GA shortly after grad school. I had just gotten married, and my wife was already in the business working for Tyler Perry, so I took a few odd jobs to supplement income. However, that all changed when I took a job as a Production Assistant (PA) on one of Tyler Perry’s plays. From there, I started working in the production office under Michelle Sneed (now the Tyler Perry Studio (TPS) President of Production and Development). I learned most of what I know during my years working for her. After that, it’s all something of a blur—promotion after promotion—from Production Assistant to Assistant Production Coordinator and eventually Production Coordinator.
