The University’s campus spans over 250 acres, nestled in leafy green Edgbaston, just three miles from Birmingham city centre. The University is the largest Higher Education institution in Birmingham with 23,000 undergraduates, 12,500 postgraduates and 8,000 staff. Campus Services (CS) employs over 900 staff with a turnover exceeding £50m in the last financial year. CS plays a key role in the quality of the student, staff and visitor experience, operating diverse services such as the University’s sporting facilities, food and beverage, cleaning and portering, conferencing and hotel operations, day nurseries, branded and own-brand retail outlets, student housing, and visitor services and attractions (e.g., Winterbourne House & Gardens). We look to enhance our retail offering, creating multifaceted student space via a collection of independent retail stores, services and favourite brands. We are committed to ensuring we deliver a commercial, modern food and retail offering working with in-house brands and external partners to ensure our campus connects and inspires people.

ARE YOU A CREATOR? • We are looking for someone that can drive and grow the profitability of an £8m business portfolio. • We champion innovation and creativity, and want to see that embedded within our offering. • We are looking for someone that can work with our external partners to ensure that we have the best offering that caters for all our communities. • We seek a leader who will champion the Food Fellows story and retail excellence across the campus. • You will be highly motivated with a commercial mindset and relationship management focus. WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR: REMIT • You will create and deliver a bold, innovative and impactful Food, Beverage and Retail strategy, including establishing appropriate Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This includes partnering with third party retail operators. • Support the 5-year business plan process and to effectively deliver the annual budgets. • Advance and contribute to the ROLE OVERVIEW development of the commercial retail portfolio, and play a central role in the delivery of high and efficient standards of service offered by our partners and in- house teams. • You will develop an understanding of the consumer profile for each service activity and will ensure all services are provided by Food Fellow or partnership teams to the highest specification, with experience of using a range of industry metrics, to enable fast-paced analysis of business trends and situations.

Are you...? • Experienced in managing complex commercial businesses, working with both in-house and external brands. • Able to develop and implement commercial strategies for large-scale complex retail and F&B operations. • An innovator with the ability to create new commercial opportunities. • Adept at managing large diverse teams across multiple outlets and driving the best performance from team members. • Financially savvy with experience of managing costs and resources. • Experienced in running multiple projects and working with a wide range of stakeholders. • An excellent communicator with the ability to lead, negotiate, persuade and influence e.g. to participate in Union negotiations and to network regionally and nationally.

• Develop and instill an approach to customer service that seeks to deliver services that are personalised to individual customer’s needs. • Develop, implement, and evaluate operational plans with responsibility for brand identity and contracts/leases, as well as budget management. • Foster a robust culture of both process ownership and continuous improvement • Evaluate service provision and recommend and implement innovative solutions to improve service quality, efficiency and long term, sustainable improvements. • Develop Key Performance Indicators and design dashboards to track performance.
PEOPLE • Provide highly effective leadership and support of large teams, through intermediate managers. • Create team flexibility and depth; developing a ‘pool’ of talent with cross- functional skills to ensure the delivery of excellence. • Guide, motivate and coach direct reports, supporting them to develop and deliver services to quality standards that are aligned with the University’s requirements. • Lead staff through periods of change, communicating a clear, positive vision and culture, whilst acting as a role model. WORK LIFE • Hours as required (based on a notional 37.5-hour week), to support a 7/365 F&B/ Retail operation (ie. including nights, weekends, bank holidays and University closure days), other team members’ rotaed working arrangements and Campus Services and University business requirements.
