in his work, Paul sent letters to him. LESSON STORY: Paul wrote some thing like this: “Dear Timothy: “You- are like my own ‘dearly be loved son’ ( 1 : 2 ). I think of you all the time and I wish I could see you (1:3, 4). I cannot comedo you now, but I am praying for you, and that makes us feel close together. “You know where I am—here in prison, because those who do not love the Lord Jesus have put me in this place. But the Lord keeps me happy, even here. I am not ashamed to speak for Him. You won’t ever be ashamed of Him, either, will you, Timothy? (1:8, 12). [Read aloud 2:L] “You and I must not complain when things are not pleasant. For Jesus’ sake, we must learn to “ endure hard ness” (2:3,10; 4:5). Jesus never grum bled nor said an angry word when people were not kind to Him, and we must be like Him in this. “You know, Timothy, our work is to ‘preach the word” (4:2), not only in church, but wherever we are. It will be easier for us to do this, and to teach others to love and obey the Word of God, too, if we keep thinking about the wonderful crown that the Lord Jesus will give us some day, Yes, He will give a crown to you, and one to me, and one to every person who is happily looking for Him to come back again to earth (4:8). Keep happy, Timothy. Keep looking for the Lord Jesus, for He will surely come some day, and then we shall receive the crowns that He wants us to have. “I must close now. But remember that I love you ‘at all times’ (Golden Text). “Your friend, “Paul.” Object Lesson “ B’s” a n d Bovs OBJECTS: A strong chain, a bolt, and a compass. LESSON: I want to talk to you this morning about three “B’s.” This strong Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed In bis heart that he would not defile himself with the' portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 9 Now God had brought Daniel Into favor and tender love with the prince of the eu nuchs. 10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should ne see your faces worse lik ing than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. 11 Then said Daniel to Metzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hanania1* Mishael, and Azarlah, 12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

chain reminds me of the first “B.” In 2 Timothy 2:1, the Apostle Paul told Timothy to "be strong.” The boy wiio wahts to make the team at school must be strong. He will do the things the coach suggests in order that he may play on the team. Christ is look ing for boys and girls who will be strong for Him In the game of life. This bolt suggests the second “B.” It says to me, “Be sturdy.” In 2 Tim othy 2:3, Paul said: “Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jésus Christ.” A soldier endures hardship for the sake of his country. The football player never complains about the scratches and bumps he receives in the game. If the soldier and the football player go through hard things .without com plaining, don’t you think the Chris tian should do as much for Christ? This compass reminds me of the third “B,” which we find in 2 Timothy 2:4. Paul wanted Timothy to “be sep arated” from worldly things, and he said, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be' a soldier.” He want ed Timothy to go straight The com-, pass helps the travelers on land and sea to go straight As far as we can learn from .the New Testament, Timothy was a .good soldier of Jesus Christ, obeying the commands given through Paul. The Lord is looking for people today who will be good soldiers, obeying the command to "be strong, sturdy, and separated.” 13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’fe meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 14 So he consented to.them in this mat ter, and proved them ten days. 15 And at the end df ten days their coun tenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the por tion of the king’s meat. 16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse. 19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananlah, Mishael, and Azarlah: therefore stood they before the king. 20 And In all matters of wisdom and un derstanding, that the king Inquired of them,
