Memory Work: The Christian’s Testimony C hristian L ife S eries * Discussion: Speak of the joy that the baby’ s “first words” bring to the hearts of the parents. In a similar way the heart of the heavenly Father is rejoiced to hear a child of God speak a word for Him. Question: What does God’s Word say concerning the Christian’s testimony? Answer: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God h£th raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Rom. 10:9). “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also be fore my Father which is in heaven” (Matt. 10:32). “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psa. 34:1). "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High” (Psa. 92:1). *For a complete list of Scriptures for memory work in the Christian Life Ser'iM, see previous copies of T he K ing ’ s B usiness . cept the Lord Jesus as Saviour should desire to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of him” (2 Pet. 3:18) . In the Christian life this is accomplished by prayer and the reading of the Word of God. Do you have a Bible, Helen?’ 1 asked at this point. “ ‘Yes, I do,’ she answered, ‘but 1 hardly ever read it. I didn’t know that it told such wonderful things, but I'll read it as soon as I get home.’ “We then turned to the last page, the golden page. ‘Isn’t this a beautiful page, Helen?’ I asked. ‘It tells me of the beautiful heavenly city. There is no night there, neither tears nor crying, and the streets of this city are of pure gold. This is the place which God has prepared for all those who nave ac cepted the Lord Jesus as Saviour. This is the Christian’s home. I’m longing to go there some day, for then I shall see my Saviour face to face. What a glad day it will be!’ “ ‘Oh, I wish I could go there-^I want to go to heaven some day,’ Helen said, with real heart earnestness. “ ‘And you may, dear child,’ I replied as I turned back to the red page. ‘The Lord Jesus is the Way. “I am the way,” He said when here on earth. If you will receive Him now as your own Saviour, Helen, you may be sure of a home in heaven.’ “And almost before I had finished speaking, Helen replied, ‘I will.’ “Of course, we bowed our heads right then and there, and thanked our heav enly Father for what He had done for Helen. And when she looked up at me again, her face just seemed to shine with a new joy She was very happy and immediately went to her mother to tell her the ‘good news’, by means of the Wordless Book; and before our ways parted, Helen’s mother, too, had accepted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour.” “How wonderful!” the twins ex claimed at almost the same time. “And Aunt Phoebe,” added Betty, “we’re going to carry these Wordless Books with us, too, so that we can tell the other children about the Lord Jesus just the way you told Helen.” , “Where is Helen now, Aunt Phoebe, and do you ever hear from her?” asked Betty after the Wordless Book had been lovingly examined and placed in her pocket. “Yes; indeed, I do, Betty. I have heard from her many times. She still loves to read, but now' she. finds time to read her Bible every day, and she says that of all her books she loves God’s Book, the Bible, ■>:st of all. “Now, dear children, it’s time for us to read a chapter from God’s Book just as Helen does, and tnen you must hurry away to bed.”—M. S. H.
“ ‘I have a strange little book with me,’ I continued, ‘that I’m sure would interest you very much. With your mother’s permission, I should like to show it to you.’ Helen was soon seated beside me, her face full of eagerness and anticipation. “ ‘Your story books contain many printed pages and colored pictures,’ I began, ‘while my little book has not a word in it, nor even a picture. It is a Wordless Book, and yet it contains the most wonderful storjr. Would you like to see my Wordless Book, Helen?’ 1 asked. “ ‘Oh, yes, I would!’ , she replied, as I took from my purse a little book just like these which I am going to give to you two dear children.” - “To be really ours?” interrupted Bobby. “Yes, indeed, and you will want to use them the way I used mine to tell Helen the ‘good news’ of salvation. “The train sped along as Helen sat by my side and turned the pages of my Wordless Book. The first page, as you can see, is black as night. ¿This page,’ I said to Helen, ‘reminds me of a dark ugly word called “sin.” God’s Word says, “All have sinned” (Rom. 3:23). “All” means every one in the world, Helen, and includes you and me. Do you be lieve this?’ “ Tes, I do,’ she replied, ‘I have sinned.’. “Then I went on with the story. ‘God’s Word also says in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death.” God is per fectly holy and good, and those who have sinned deserve only to be sepa rated from Him forever and ever. Sure ly this black page has a sad story to teU. “ ‘Let us hurry to turn to the next page,’ I added. ‘We shall see whether this little book gives a remedy for sin and its awful consequences. Oh, the next page is red—red as blood. This page tells us of the Lord Jesus Christ who came into this vorld to be the Saviour of the world. “But God com- mendeth his love toward“ us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). He died upon the cross of Calvary for you and me, Helen, and if you will receive Him (John 1:12) as your Saviour, He will write your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life, and make you His child forever. “ ‘Now this clean white page reminds me of those who have accepted the Lord Jesus as Saviour, whose sins have been all washed away. “Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Psa. 51:7), the Psalmist, David,, cried, and God heard and answered. “ ‘The next page is green, green as grass in springtime. Green grass de notes life and growth. Those who ac-
