Lagan College Prospectus 2023

A VISION OF SUCCESS Lagan College is recognised as a centre of success. We want to continue building on our excellent reputation. Our school buildings include a Sports Hall, Sixth Form Centre, specialist accommodation for Art and Music and general classrooms. Our students are being educated in state of the art accommodation, successfully preparing for the world of work in the 21st Century. The legacy of the troubles and issues of division and sectarianism concern everyone who is interested in the future of their children. Our young people, who will be the future leaders and citizens, are ones for whom sectarianism is an alien way of thinking and behaving. Our school ethos holds dear the values of reconciliation, service, respect and equality. Through increased contact with Europe and the rest of the world, Lagan College students can see the positive values of their own community in a wider context. They are highly regarded by employers, universities and colleges, both for their academic achievement and for their personal qualities, which an integrated education enhances.

GCSE SUCCESS 2022

A LEVEL SUCCESS 2022

Despite a challenging period for our Year 14 students in 2022, we were so proud of the year group’s well-deserved examination outcomes. Top performing students were Rosa McCloskey, Jude Hines, Clodagh Magee and Ben Lewis. The college achieved 80% 3 or more A*-C out- comes which was our best ever, benchmarked against pre covid figures. Rosa is studying Midwifery at Queen’s University (Biology A*, H&S Care A*, RE A and Spanish A) and Jude is enjoying Electrical Engineering at Queen’s (Maths A*, SSD A* and Physics A). Clodagh has gone on to study Business and Ben is studying Finance and Investment Management, both at at the University of Ulster (3 Distinction* in Business Studies and Public Services).

This year, we experienced our best ever results with 97% of students achieving 5-10 A*-C GCSE outcomes, which was a fitting way to end our 40th Anniversary celebrations. Our top performing students included Georgia Deane achieving 10 A*, Lucy Brown 7A* and 3 A grades, Rachael McNamee 6A*s and 4 A grades and Lorcan 5 A* and 5 A grades. Georgie is studying Biology, Maths, Sociology and Health and Social Care and hopes to pursue a career in Law. Lucy wishes to pursue a career in Medicine and has opted for Chemistry, Biology, Spanish and Maths. Rachael is studying Sociology, Business Studies and Religious Studies and is interested in Law and Psychology. Lorcan is studying Geography, Maths, Physics and History, to keep his options open.
