Welcome to Historic Festival 42! I want to personally welcome you to Lime Rock Park’s Historic Festival. I’m as much a fan of the vintage car world as you, and I can assure you, 2024’s Festival is going to be spectacular. We are introducing a new race group to the festival this year. World Challenge was a very popular class at Lime Rock Park in the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, featuring the showroom stock cars that were available at the time. Always a big hit with Lime Rock fans with multiple manufacturers winning and the star drivers of the future. We are introducing this class in an effort to make our event more affordable, and to showcase some of our younger drivers. World Challenge cars are readily available, relatively inexpensive and often owned by the drivers who ran them 25 years ago. We have at least 5 cars running that have won World Challenge races; four of them took victory right here at Lime Rock. And that doesn’t include the four drivers who won World Challenge at Lime Rock, all returning this weekend. Peter Cunningham, the most successful World Challenge driver ever, who won 14 Championships, is racing one of his winning cars. Have you ever seen that in Vintage Racing? The Formula Junior field is very strong, and there is a resurgence of cars in the Wings & Slicks group. Both should make for some great racing. You’ll enjoy walking through the paddock this weekend. Our Honored Collector, Ross Myers, benefactor of the 3 Dog Garage Museum in Boyertown, Pa. is bringing a huge exhibition. The exhibition consists largely of Ford Powered cars, our Honored Marque at HF42. There will also be eight unique Ford classes in the Concours on Sunday. We have two great exhibitions for Sunday in the Park. One is our traditional Concours on the Sam Posey Straight with 24 of classes and approximately 185 total number of cars. On the rest of the track, we will have our Gathering of the Marques featuring Car Club exhibitions. We will have more than 20 car clubs participating, bringing at least 700 cars. What the Historic Festival at LRP always means is no matter where you look – paddock, track, pit lane, even our fan parking areas – you can expect to see some of the best examples that the vintage racing and collector car world has to offer. Thank you for coming. Sincerely yours,

Skip Barber

Ford’s Rich History at Lime Rock Park

Lime Rock Park has long played host to Ford’s winning history dating all the way back to the inaugural Trans-Am race in 1967, where Peter Revson clinched the win driving NASCAR legend’s Bud Moore’s Lincoln-Mercury Cougar. In 1969 the Memorial Day race conflicted with the Indianapolis 500, and understudies to the factory stars dominated Trans-Am. Local favorite Sam Posey won the pole in a Carroll Shelby prepared Ford Mustang, and then won easily

ahead of Swede Savage in Moore’s Ford Mustang. To avoid the Indy 500 conflict, the 1970 Trans-Am was moved to May 9. Legend Parnelli Jones won in a Moore Ford Mustang. This year is still considered the greatest season in Trans-Am’s long history. After the factories stepped away from Trans-Am, the next big Ford involvement came with former drag racer Jack Roush, who dominated both Trans- Am and IMSA GTO competition beginning in 1984 through the late 1990s. At Lime Rock, his Mercury Merkurs finished first and second in the 1987 event, with Pete Halsmer beating Scott Pruett by four seconds. The following year, Pruett won wire-to- wire in the Roush Merkur XR4Ti. Roush switched from Mercury to Ford for 1989, with Dorsey

As we celebrate Ford as the honored marque of Lime Rock Park’s Historic Festival 42 this Labor Day weekend, it’s fitting to reflect on the rich Trans- Am history that has made Ford synonymous with success at this iconic track.

Schroeder winning in the 25th Anniversary Ford Mustang fielded by Roush. While Canadian Ron Fellows became later known as a star for another manufacturer, he came to fame driving Tom Gloy’s AER Ford Mustangs. He was the Lime Rock winner in 1992. Schrader then won back-to-back for Gloy, beating Tommy Kendall in a 1-2 Mustang finish in 1992 and repeating in 1996 in the Raybestos Mustang. Kendall dominated Trans-Am in 1997 in a record-shattering campaign driving the Roush All Sport Body Quencher Ford Mustang. At Lime Rock, the Memorial Day weekend featured a unique Trans-Am/IMSA doubleheader. Tommy Kendall won in Trans-Am, with Mustangs taking six of the top seven positions, while the Momo Ferrari 333SP captured the IMSA World Sports Car feature.

Ford’s Rich History ... (Continued) Mustangs continued their Lime Rock Park dominance the following two years with podium sweeps. Lou Gigliotti led a Mustang podium sweep in 1998 followed by Michael Lewis and Ross Thompson. In 1998 Brian Simo led

another Ford 1-2-3, followed by Chris Neville and Lewis. Ford’s next big day at LRP was 2015, with Tony Ave leading a sweep of the top four positions. In recent years, Mustangs have enjoyed plenty of success at LRP, in both the TA and TA2 features. Only a few days after crashing in the Hoosier 100 Sprint Car race in Indianapolis, Poughkeepsie second-generation star Chris Dyson won the pole and claimed what he called his “Biggest career win” in the 2019 Trans Am feature. Ernie Francis Jr. recovered from an early spin to take second for another 1-2 Ford Mustang finish. With no race due to COVID in 2020, Dyson led every lap of the 2021 TA race in his Mustang.

Kendall’s race-winning Mustang is on display in the Honored Collector tent in A Paddock – stop by and see it yourself.

After making it three in a row in 2022, Dyson came up one position short in 2023, while Gym Weed Mustang teammate Matt Brabham won the pole and finished third. Thomas Merrill won three of four TA2 features at LRP since 2019, driving Mike Cope’s Mustangs to victory in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

RealTime Brings Legendary World Challenge Cars to Lime Rock Park Historic Festival 42

R ealTime Racing, winners of 15 World Challenge Drivers’ Championships, will bring four of its turn- of-the-century World Challenge race cars to Lime Rock Park for the 42nd running the Historic Festival, August 30 – September 2. The cars are part of the Toyo Tires Turn-of-the-Century World Challenge Group created specifically for this year’s event.

RealTime owner Peter Cunningham will drive the team’s first-generation Acura TSX, which the team won three World Challenge Touring Car Championships; in 2005 and 2008 with Cunningham and in 2006 with Pierre Kleinubing. Historic World Challenge co-founder John Whitaker will drive a second-generation RealTime Acura TSX, a model Kleinubing won the 2009 Touring Car title and Cunningham drove to two World Challenge GTS championships. “It seemed only fitting that RealTime would bring a collection of its No. 42 race cars to Lime Rock’s 42 Historic Festival,” Cunningham said. “I was thrilled when the track announced it would include a class

specifically for World Challenge cars in this year’s festival. We started racing in World Challenge back in 1993, so RealTime’s history is very much intertwined with the series’ history.” In addition to the TSXs, RealTime will have two more iconic cars for display; an Acura Integra Type R which won Touring Car category championships in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and the Honda Prelude Si chassis in which Cunningham won his first ever Touring Car Championship in 1995. Michael Galati won the TC Championship and Rookie of the Year in the same car the following year. Cunningham and Galati went on to become the two drivers with the most World Challenge championships.

“We’ve had a lot of good trips to Lime Rock Park and won nine World Challenge races there, more than any other track,” Cunningham added. “We are all looking forward to reconnecting and racing with a lot of our former competitors.” All the World Challenge cars will be outfitted in Toyo Tires, the original spec tire of the series from 2001-2010.

MAZDA OF MI LFORD

Honored Collector Ross Myers & 3 Dog Garage

Ross Myers, a regular competitor in Historic Trans-Am and a long-time competitor at Lime Rock Park, is the benefactor of Boyertown, Pennsylvania-based 3 Dog Garage Museum and has graced Lime Rock Park with 16 rare Ford-powered cars that will be on display throughout the weekend and during Sunday in The Park. 3 Dog Garage is a unique, not-for-profit, historic-vehicle museum located in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, and occupies a restored, three-story, early 20th century brick manufacturing building with an attached one-story wing built approximately 50 years ago. A second building, within easy walking distance of the first, is a recently and extensively renovated mid-20th century brick manufacturing facility, which opened its doors as a museum in 2022. Display areas, a working restoration shop, a library and other spaces, all combined, total approximately 75,000 square feet. The several collections in the museum contain vehicles as chosen by long-time collector Ross Myers, who bought his first vintage automobile, a 1936 Ford in need of total restoration, when he was eight years old. The car is now a national-award winning show car and resides at 3 Dog Garage with more than 100 other vehicles. The museum takes its name from three Myers family dogs, all of whom enjoyed going for rides in old cars, especially old open cars. Their names were George, Gracie and Dauber, all Bouviers, now in Dog Heaven. Ross and his wife Beth have designed the museum spaces so that the visitor experience provides the opportunity for close personal inspection and enjoyment of the vehicles without ropes or encumbrances to easy movement. There is no charge to visit 3 Dog Garage, but admission can be made by pre-arrangement with the museum scheduling department for groups such as car clubs or community service organizations. Some of the extraordinary Fords that Ross Myers & 3 Dog Garage will be gracing our historic grounds include the Paul Newman-raced Daytona Prototype, Carrol Shelby’s championship- winning 1963 Competition Cobra 289 and several original historic Trans-Am cars. Keep reading to learn more about the historic & iconic vehicles being brought to Lime Rock Park this weekend by our Honored Collector, and be sure to visit the Honored Collection display in A Paddock as you enjoy the rest of the sights & sounds at Historic Festival 42.

1970 Trans-Am Mustang No.16 Trans-Am’s “glory years” peaked in 1970, when Detroit’s “Big Three” manufactures (joined by AMC) battled with factory-backed lineups and all-star drivers. Parnelli Jones drove Bud Moore’s No. 15 Mustang Boss 302 to five victories – including Lime Rock – and won the title by one point over the Penske Javelin of Mark Donohue. George Follmer was third in the No. 16 Mustang, winning a race among eight podiums in 10 starts. This car is acknowledged as the best-preserved original example of the three team cars. 1963 Competition Cobra 289

Ken Miles drove Carroll Shelby’s lightweight Cobra to both the 1963 USRRC driver and manufacturer titles in addition to an SCCA championship. The car combined a lightweight English chassic with American V-8 power, along with Shelby’s legendary ingenuity. The car has been restored to its 1963 configuration.

1957 “Battlebird” Peter De Paolo Engineering of Long Beach, Calif., built this heavily modified Ford Thunderbird specifically for the 1957 Daytona Speed Weeks – back when racing and speed trials were on the beach. This car was clocked at over 200 mph on its first run, but mechanical problems prevented a mandatory second run. After an engine change, the car raced at nearby New Smyrna Beach’s airport course, with NASCAR driver Marvin Panch beating all the Corvettes while finishing second to Carroll Shelby’s Ferrari. That was its final race – it was outlawed soon afterward by the Automobile Manufacturer’s Association. 1965 Shelby GT350 Type R

This is one of 36 R-Models built, chassis 5R108. Its first race was at Green Valley Raceway in Smithfield, Texas, in February 1966. When regular driver Jerry Titus declined to race the car, Mexican star Pedro Rodriguez stepped in and won the race – as promised. The car later drove in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours and won its class at Sebring, driven by Fred Van Beuren and Paul Jett. It also won the 1967 SCCA B Production National Championship.

1983 Ford Mustang GTP #06 Future legend Bob Riley designed the front-engine No. 06 Ford Mustang GTP for the fledgling IMSA Camel GTP Prototype category. Drag racer/Ford Engineer Jack Roush made his sports car racing debut

with this project, partnering with Zakspeed, which provided a 1.7-liter engine. The car debuted in late 1985 with a victory at Road America for Tim Coconis and Klaus Ludwig, with teammates Bobby Rahal and Geoff Brabam third overall and second in GTP. Roush quit the project after a disappointing performance at Pocono, with Team Zakspeed USA entering the Daytona Finale, placing 16th in GTP in the car’s third and final race.

1967 Trans-Am Cougar #98 Dan Gurney and Ed Leslie both drove the No. 98 Mercury Cougar in 1967 Trans-Am competition, with Parnelli Jones driving Bud Moore’s No. 15 entry. Carroll Shelby’s Ford Mustangs edged the Cougars for the title by two points – back then, the main trophy went to the manufacturer, not the drivers.

1992 Roush Mustang T/A GTO #15 Whistler Roush/Protofab debuted this car in 1985 as a Capri for the Trans-Am, and modified it two years later for IMSA Camel GTO for Lyn St. James. The car continued racing through 1992, winning the GTO class in both the 1991 and 1992 Daytona 24 Hours and 1991 12 Hours of Sebring, with drivers including Dorsey Schroeder, Wally Dallenbach Jr., Robby Gordon and Mark Martin. Roush chassis #011 was finally retired. Its recent restoration required only minimal cosmetic attention to bring it back to its 1992 configuration.

1996 Roush Mustang T/A #11 All Sport Tommy Kendall drove Mustangs owned by Jack Roush and prepared by Dan Binks to three consecutive Trans-Am titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997. The 1996 title is significant due to that being the last year for GM support in the series. In 1997, Kendall drove his Mustang to victory at Lime Rock, one of 11 victories in 13 races in a record-setting season. 1993 Bud Moore Thunderbird #15 Motorcraft When Geoff Bodine drove this Motorcraft Ford Thunderbird to victory at Sears Point Raceway in 1993, it proved to be the final victory in the storied career of Bud Moore Engineering. Moore was a beloved World War II hero and a champion in both NASCAR and Trans-Am, delivering on his promised with dedication, hard work and humility. This car represents and protects his legacy for the next generations of motorsports enthusiasts.

2005 Crawford Daytona Prototype DP03 This car competed as the Spark of Georgia Tech in 2004, driven by Chris Hall and Larry Huang. Paul Newman rented the car for the 2005 Daytona 24 Hours to promote the upcoming Pixar/Disney Film, Cars. The car carried No. 79, Newman’s age. Newman garnered national headlines when the car had a small fire in pre-event testing. Newman and Michael Brockman drove in the race along with Newman’s championship-winning drivers, Cristiano da Matta and Sebastien Bourdais, but failed to finish. Howard- Boss Motorsports fielded the car in 2006-07, primarily for the father-son team of Rob and Chris Dyson.

2006 Saleen S7R This was one of 18 S7R endurance race cars developed by American engineer/racer Steve Saleen, and one of four built in the U.S. at Saleen’s production facility in Irvine, Calif. ORECA campaigned this No. 55 Matmut- sponsored Fords, racing in the 2006 LeMans Series (winning at Spa) and taking the 2007 French GT Series with three victories. It also finished fifth in GT1 in the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours, with a lineup including Jean- Philippe Belloc and Nicolas Prost.

1936 Ford Ed Pink Coupe California native Ed Pink is one of the legendary, prolific, successful and respected race car engine builders from the late 1940s to the present day. He built his own hot rod in 1949, this 1936 Ford. With a Ford flathead V-8, the car ran 137 mph at El Mirage and 141 at Bonneville. He sold the car before being shipped by the Army to Korea. The car was finally tracked down by Ross Myers in 2013 and restored to its original condition.

1932 Golden Rod This is a totally original, unrestored example of a mid-fifties East Coast street rod. It was built by Jack Lentz, an Army veteran of Korea and Japan as a radio operator prior to starting his auto body shop in Belford, N.J. The car was featured in several hot rod enthusiast magazines, a reminder that California was not the only place when great people built great cars.

1932 Ford Ricky Nelson Roadster This 1932 Ford was built by Californian Ray De Fillipi in 1951. The floorpan of the body sat lower on the frame rains than a stock body, for both style and yielding higher top speeds in dry lakes speed competition. A Corvette V-8 was added in 1956, with the car appearing in the popular television series, “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” with their sons Dave and Rick Nelson seen in the car in various episodes.

1922 Ford Kookie Kar This car was built in 1955 by 22-year-old Norm Grabowski of Sunland, Calif. It was based on a cut-down 1922 Ford Model T roadster mounted on an altered 1931 Ford Model A frame. It appeared on the cover of the April 1957 issue of Car Craft , and was regular in the television show “77 Sunset Strip,” where it was driven by “Kookie” Kookson, played by teen-age heart throb Edd Byrnes.
