F our planting sites, 30,000 plants distributed, and an extra 12,000 plants for the red zone – it has been a busy and environmentally beneficial year for the Christ’s College-based Eco-Action Nursery. Overseen by Eco-Action Nursery Trust co-founder – and College Physics teacher – David Newton, the trust is also ramping up the scale of its work, with 40,000 seedlings to be cultivated this year. “Founded in 2016, Eco-Action has planted more than 11,000 plants, while expanding its capacity and membership with the help of the College community,” David says. “It collects endemic native plant seeds, propagates seedlings and grows plants at its Christ’s College nursery. It also works with students at 20 schools with established satellite nurseries where the plants are grown to a size suitable for planting. “To support that strong growth across various schools, the trust continues to provide satellite nurseries with more equipment and resources.”
