Science of shaping standout scholars

about our College Scholarship sessions, with the right attitude to succeed from the boys,” he says. “I also think we have Science teachers who understand where success lies in tackling a Scholarship subject, and the best approach to achieve the best outcome. It is always worth investing in Scholarship and seeing the value of that accomplishment.” Head of Department – Chemistry Scott Franklin says the high number of Scholarships in Chemistry in recent years is the result of boys committing to the

dedicated tutorials that are run each week. “Boys gather in my Chemistry classroom for hour-long tutorial sessions before school to explore past exam questions, build skills in problem solving, and develop confidence in being able to approach the examination questions,” Scott says. “Through this support outside the classroom, students gain the knowledge and aptitudes needed to attempt and succeed.” He also points out that Scholarship preparation is not just for Year 13.

“It starts all the way back in Year 9, from when boys get supported specialist teaching all the way through their time at College,” he says. “This comes from highly experienced teachers, enabling boys to develop the communication skills, understanding, and knowledge necessary to make gaining Scholarship a reality. “With skilled teachers, good resources, small class sizes, and dedicated support, the students are given the best chance to prepare for this prestigious examination.”
