Creativity Artist Oli Aikawa

P romising young College artist Oli Aikawa brings strong colours to his work, capturing striking scenes. Winner of The 2022 Creators’ Room Scholarship – worth $3000 – for his colourful oil artwork titled Hagley , the Year 13 student thrives on the bright colours of his surroundings. “The main message I want to communicate is the vibrance that difference brings in art and life,” College’s Head of Character & Leadership explains. “I try to put my emotions, especially feelings of

happiness and colour, in my art. I feel that this translates to the art itself. “I am always trying to absorb ideas from my surroundings. When these ideas work together with something that is unexpected, yet still makes sense, there's a perfect moment of serendipity.” Hosted by The Creators’ Room, the Art Stars exhibition in September this year will feature outstanding original work – including Oli’s prize- winning Hagley painting – by local secondary school students.
