Teamwork Upbeat night of House Music

I t is a highlight of the year – and the 88th College Parents’ Association House Music Festival in the Christchurch Town Hall did not disappoint. Held on 30 June, House Music opened with a spirited haka and closed with a performance by the award-winning Fiddlesticks Quartet, and, in between, there were 18 performances by House choirs and instrumental and vocal ensembles. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends, who packed into the

auditorium, loved it all. Director of Music Robert Aburn describes the night as one which not only showcases musical excellence but also allows boys to step far out of their comfort zones to perform on the Town Hall stage. The enthusiasm, energy, and competitiveness were all palpable throughout the two- and-a half-hour showcase, which was judged by the Director of Music at The Cathedral Grammar School, Chris Adams.

Summing up at the end, he congratulated all the performers and paid special attention to the leaders for preparing the Houses and groups so well. “A lot of energy goes into the performances. It’s worth remembering that you’re performing from the moment you arrive on stage.” Christ’s College Parents’ Association President Megan Lamberg views the evening as a unique highlight of the year, with the whole school in attendance.
